I don’t think either party would really mind that outcome. After all, it was Congress that allowed the old Independent Counsel Act to lapse, with GWB cheering it on.
Nobody really wants accountability if it comes to rest on themselves or their allies.
Or to be used as a political tool by their political opponents.
