At least 30 people were injured on Monday after an Air Europa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight hit turbulence over the Atlantic, sending passengers flying out of their seats with one man appearing to have gotten stuck in the overhead bins.
Passengers aboard Flight UX045 from Spain to Uruguay shared harrowing video of the damage and aftermath caused by turbulence, with one customer uploading a video on X showing a man stuck in the overhead luggage compartment.
The man’s feet could be seen poking out of a bin after he was allegedly hurled up there by the turbulence, with a group of people huddling together to pull him down as a crying baby could be heard in the background.
Other footage taken by passengers show ceiling panels torn off by the impact of the turbulence, oxygen masks dandling overhead and at least one destroyed seat.
Air Europa said the flight, carrying 325 passengers and bound for the Uruguayan capital, was hit by turbulence while flying over the Atlantic Ocean and was forced to land in Natal, in north-eastern Brazil.

Airlines should keep the seatbelt light on--if you are seated, keep the seat belt on.

It's a no brainer. Keep your seatbelt on. It doesn't even need to be cinched tight. Even a loose belt will keep you form flying into the ceiling.
Turbulance is turbulance, landing in southern California, the plane hit severe turbulance, if I didn’t have my seat belt on, I too would have been in the overhead luggage compartment

A BOEING aircraft hit a patch of really nasty turbulence and continued its voyage SAFELY to its destination.
Idiots who weren’t wearing their seatbelts suffered the consequences of their personal negligence.

I was on a flight from Rome to Miami Saturday. The Airbus A330 I was on also hit a patch of turbulence.
Might have been the safest place for him to be.

If the seatbelt sign is on passengers are REQUIRED by federal regulations (law) to be in their seats with seatbelts fastened throughout that period. There is no ‘exception’ for physical discomfort. Cabin crews can be violated by the FAA for noncomliance. It also breeds contempt and totally ignoring the sign.
I was on a 4 hr all nighter from West Coast to Chicago, smooth as glass, sign was on for the entire flight,everyone ignored it. Houston company

No seatbelt? In an automobile, your body is traveling at, what 40-80 mph. With the combination seat-shoulder strap in the auto, you can survive some crashes, and avoid all kinds of injuries. For those of you in Rio Linda, an airplane is traveling just a might faster. When I used to fly often for work, if it was a long flight, I would walk up and down the isle a few times, BUT NEVER when the pilot announced he was putting the Fasten Seatbelt on for choppy weather ahead. These days, I do not walk up towards the front of the plane. The airplane crews already have enough to worry about.
