I think her being in teaching was her downfall. Four Decades of brainwashing is hard to withstand, especially if someone chose that profession on purpose and has no other options.
I was part of a science to teaching program in Texas. There were about five of us, I couldn’t do the typing required any longer in software engineering, one guy had his own business and sold it and was quite wealthy. Three others retired early from the Federal government. Had a pension but wanted to do something. We all quit within a year! And this was in texas! Unfortunately the schools and the education department in the University was just as liberal as anywhere else.
My husband and five of his six siblings became teachers. They didn’t all stay but my husband and one of his sisters did. They said it all changed when the Department of education came in.
