The Justice Department has presented Boeing with a plea deal after it accused the airplane manufacturer of violating the terms of a 2021 deferred prosecution agreement that was put in place following two 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019.

The Justice Department told Boeing it could plead guilty or go to trial, people familiar with the talks confirmed to CBS News. The agreement, which was presented to Boeing on Sunday, would have the company plead guilty to the conspiracy charge it originally faced in 2021. In exchange, Boeing would pay a fine and enter a three-year probationary period, the people said.

The Justice Department outlined the deal in a presentation to family members of the 737 Max crash victims earlier Sunday before presenting it to Boeing.

Not good enough.

Prosecute executives, break up the company into 3 and require onsite federal inspectors at all manufacturing facilities (unannounced spot checks, mandatory, for up to 5 years, 2-3 times/year).

Additionally, a ban on ‘self-regulation’ status, another discussion altogether.

This appears to be the shakedown many of us speculated about.

Require Boeing to fire all the McDonnell Douglas creeps and then go back to making quality planes.

I offer you a complete analysis of the Indonesian government’s accident report for all the Boeing bashers who have obediently bought into the gaslighting misinformation regarding the company’s 737 Max problems. Boeing has been attacked because it has deep pockets and is an easy political target of blowhards like Josh Hawley.

Federal inspectors ...

it sounds like you are calling for no more American civilan built airplanes, commercial or military

Can you list the number of aircraft the Federal government has ever built ?

I suppose they can use SEIU to do the work ...

It seems a rather myopic view of history with respect to risk and innovation.

It seems a rather myopic view of history with respect to risk and innovation Part of the problem with all of this is the regulations themselves. The process of qualifying parts and processes is hugely burdensome. You nailed it, with no risk comes no progress.
