Fabien Roussel, the head of France's Communist party, lost his seat in the snap elections held on Sunday, June 30. He was beaten by a far-right Rassemblement National candidate, Guillaume Florquin, who was elected as early as the first round, having obtained a score above 50%. Roussel had held the seat for the 20th constituency in the Nord department since 2017.
