Some Democrats start calling for Biden to step aside and 'throw in the towel' on 2024

Some Democrats began calling for President Joe Biden to step aside so the party can nominate another candidate after he stumbled badly in Thursday's debate against his Republican rival, former President Donald Trump.

"This was like a champion boxer who gets in the ring past his prime and needs his corner to throw in the towel," said a Democratic lawmaker, adding that he meant Biden should exit the race.

The options for a switch are limited: If the president doesn't choose to leave of his own volition, there would have to be a revolt among Democratic National Convention delegates, the vast majority of whom were elected on their pledge to nominate Biden. But that's what some Democrats were thinking after Thursday night's debate.

It's “time to talk about an open convention and a new Democratic nominee,” said a second Democratic lawmaker who has been a solid Biden supporter.

The fear among these Democrats is that the version of Biden that showed up to the debate — one bearing a likeness to the caricature Trump and his allies have portrayed of a man unequipped for the job — cannot win in November.

Even those who want a replacement candidate doubt that the party can move Biden aside, aren’t certain who could win the party’s nod in his absence and don’t know whether a substitute could beat Trump in November. Going into the debate, which was hosted by CNN, polls showed a close race between Biden and Trump.“There is a sense of shock at how he came out at the beginning of this debate. How his voice sounded. He seemed a little disoriented. ... There are going to be discussions about whether he should continue,” David Axelrod, a top adviser to former President Barack Obama, said on CNN...

So did Zerohissef and Billy Clintoon tweet that they still supported FJB after their reported intervention?

Seems I saw something to that effect, in passing...

It sounds like they want to go with some version of sympathy for the old man...and aren’t you a hater to point out his failings.

Not sure that will work but who knows...

Yes. and it wasn't the blow Biden borrowed from Hunter during the debate prep.

Obama, Hillary and Bubba have spoken. Joe’s good for another 4 years.
The rest of us don’t bet on him surviving another 4 months. He’s basically keeping the seat warm for Kamala Harris, holding the place for her.

“I haven’t heard one second of the debate did bider really blow it?”

Over the last 24 hours, I’ve heard many comments along the lines of, “If I had tried, beforehand, to imagine the worst possible showing by Biden... his worst possible physical appearance, his worst possible incoherence delivered in his worst possible voice, the worst possible Biden of my imagination would have still been light-years ahead of the Biden who actually showed up.”

We need him to stay in the race.

He is the best opponent to have.

“Some” Democrats have called for Joe to step down, obviously not nearly enough of them yet.

If ever there were reason for the 25th Amendment to be included in the Constitution, this is the time to apply it.

Joe has, depending on one’s perspective, either hit the wall, or gone off a cliff. Neither provides for good prospects at recovery.

(Shudder) “Que mala” Harris assumes the mantle of the office. Whether she could ever be Presidential is another matter.

On the second ballot, the super delegates come into play. That’s 739 delegates who will vote whatever the party wants.

I almost feel sorry for all those out there who bought the “he’s sharp, engaged…..” deep fake narrative that has been out there for months and years.

The energy that could have been harnessed from the media and others spinning from he’s the best to he needs to go could have lowered the world for a decade

Its worse than you possibly could think it is. Worse than anything. The moment Biden started talking at the top of the debate, THE VERY beginning, anyone with eyes and ears could tell he should not be president.

I watched the first 10 minutes, he was horrific.

Dementia Joe was on full display for the world to see, he looked like a corpse, ghostly white.

Even worse on times he wasn’t babbling incoherently, slack jawed staring into space on the split screen.

He’s toast, crispy toast

Its a needed provision, but it is compromised by politics/timing.

If 25th Amendment deal was used, oh man, the president is incapable of being president anymore, it would have to be not this close to an election cycle so sanity would prevail.

“It could be one giant plot”

Looks like it to me...step one. No presidential debate has been held before September 21...this one in June? Why?

Some like Hillary defend Joe. Fake.

Things are not as they seem, which the left is good at. Don’t let yourself be fooled.

They want him out of the race.

If Biden doesn’t make it to the convention, and resigns instead, does Heals up Harris become the presumptive nominee since she would become President?
