I believe that it’s very likely Brandon was helped by a TelePromPTer-like visual technology and a micro-IFB earpiece.
There’s no question that FJB got a boost from both, separately, but—be careful what you wish for—it’s like the standard metaphor: it’s “two steps forward and three steps back.”
The beyond-unusual eye stares, sans blinking and without visible pupil movement made Joe appear to be a stereotypical alien. Perhaps he was channeling his inner serpent.
Brandon’s speech patter often seemed to be driven by his audio feed, where normal human speech for this type of situation—and as we saw with PDJT—was a coordinated mental, oral and bodily engagement. When Joe’s mouth couldn’t keep up, his words would jumble, become run-on and spoonerism-filled.
What was overriding for me was in the “three steps back,” that came as as Rorschach splat, is FJB’s bottom-line inauthenticity. His presentation was not believably coming from the slab of meet positioned in front of the cameras.
People innately sense how humans think and speak of their own accord and Joe made his output a series of pratfalls. Often it would be very clear that one wasn’t seeing someone form a thought a second or so ahead of his mouth’s coming out with the words for that common thought. It truly was as if he was an automaton trained to repeat what was fed into his earpiece. That direct connect then spewed the (very occasionally impressive word sounds without the thoughts represented animating his eyes, countenance, head or body.
Then ol’ Joe would several times lock up when his mouth simply couldn’t keep up with the remote coach. The freeze-ups completely canceled out the occasional serendipitous, “Not too bad for an octogenarian!”
I believe non-CNN personnel were kept out of the debate hall so there would be no chance any Trump supporter would be able to use any jamming equipment on either of Joe’s tech enhancements.
