Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals now stare oblivion in the face.
In 1993, just-retired prime minister Brian Mulroney’s Progressive Conservatives, after winning two majorities, were reduced to only two seats in Parliament.
The PCs had been competitive in every election since their creation in 1940. They traded government with the Liberals through 16 elections.
They had imposed the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Voters saw it every time they bought anything. It replaced the usefully invisible Manufacturer’s Sales Tax.
Today’s Liberals have their own tax disaster. The carbon levy is at least as unpopular today as the GST was in 1993.
The loss in Toronto-St Paul’s is difficult to exaggerate. This Toronto territory is as close as you can get to the Imperial court of Trudeau Liberalism.
The parallels with the PC death march in 1993 are unmistakable.
Like Mulroney, the Liberals have no leadership saviour in the wings. The cult of Trudeau has stifled the rise of any caucus replacement. The PM does not seem strong on mentorship.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, often mentioned as a successor, represents University-Rosedale — right next door to St. Paul’s. There’s your Kim Campbell for the 2025 election...

And yet, Trudeau still refuses to resign ... he'll drag the whole Liberal Party down with him

Good
Our next Prime Minister!
My bad. That Pierre fella. I shouda’ posted the full 9 minute one.
Him dragging down the Liberals would be excellent
Some Liberals are thinking about booting Trudeau ,LOL
Can’t they call for elections now? What’s the wait?
The liberal party will recover quickly once they get rid of Trudeau. There’s many immigrants in Canada and they will vote for the Liberal Party.
Trudeau is doing to the Liberal Party in Canada what Boris Johnson did to the Tories in the UK, it’s interesting that two different politicians from supposedly different ends of the political spectrum acted alike on most issues and have destroyed them at the same time
Liberal defeat
How sweet it is anywhere it happens liberty stands strong.
Boris Johnson was great on Brexit. Otherwise, he was not conservative at all. Politically, there’s not much of a difference between Johnson and Trudeau.
American translation of headline please.
Not a Canadian, but “riding”= congressional district
Because Elections are called under two processes:
1. The Prime Minister advises the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and issue a writ for a General Election.
2. His Majesty’s Government loses a confidence vote in the House of Commons, and there is no other party with enough seats to form a government. With no party able to command a majority in the House of Commons, then the Governor General will dissolve parliament and issue a writ for a new General Election.
If the NDP keeps their Confidence and Supply agreement with the Liberals, then Trudeau has a majority and can stay in government until the present Parliament expires next year.
He was great talking about Brexit but he never fully implemented Brexit allowed unlimited boat from France to send thousands of migrants into UK plus he totally was an idiot about handling Covid and the Brits rightfully want no more of the Torries, the Republicans if they fail this time will be on the same track
The problem is that the UK is too statist especially with the control of their economy like the NHS.
What they need to do is to be more like Singapore then they'll thrive in the aftermath of Brexit.
