The trial of a man who conspired to kidnap and murder TV personality Holly Willougby begins at Chelmsford Crown Court, Essex today.
Shopping centre security officer Gavin Plumb has been remanded in custody since October last year over an alleged plot to kidnap and murder the former This Morning anchor.
He is charged with soliciting murder, and incitement to commit a kidnapping between 2nd and 5th October in Harlow, Essex. Willoughby was alerted to the alleged plot moments before going on air to present This Morning on 5th October.
The mum-of-three remained off-air in the days that followed and announced her resignation from the ITV show on 10th October, saying: “I have to make this decision for me and my family.”

Fascinating how one man is being charged and tried for a kidnap and murder plot. That's quite a feat isn't it.
Also it has taken a long time and he's been in custody since October.
What happeened to the right to a "speedy and fair trial"?
He was plotting with an undercover officer.
oh right ok I haven’t heard about it..
I will soon as I expect this to make the news
That doesn’t exist in England.
If found guilty, he’ll get time off for the time he was held in detention.
Oh that’s interesting I’m no criminal law expert!
So it’ll be time served
Canada has the British system, more or less.
They can hold you up to 96 hours without charges.
There is no time limit that they can hold you, if you are facing charges, other than it must be considered reasonable, which basically means the time needed for the the prosecution and defense to get their case together and schedule you for trial.
Then, if you are found guilty, they will account for the time you were held in custody and give it back to you in a form of a credit.
It could be just time served, because the minimal sentence is a year. But he would get a year off if he sentenced to a longer time.
A case that was not as successful.

A security guard plotted to abduct, rape and murder TV personality Holly Willoughby to fulfil his “ultimate fantasy”, a court heard.
Gavin Plumb, 37, is alleged to have assembled a kit of tools for “highly sexualised” violence against the former This Morning presenter in 2023.
Mr Plumb, from Harlow, Essex, is on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court and denies soliciting murder, inciting kidnap and inciting rape.
“It was not just the ramblings of a fantasist; the defendant had carefully planned what he would do,” prosecutor Alison Morgan KC said.
Mr Plumb was alleged to have developed an “obsession” with the broadcaster over a number of years.
He had a “real intention” to kidnap the broadcaster from her home, “take her to a location where she would be raped repeatedly” and then murder her, Ms Morgan said.
She added that Mr Plumb was arrested after he revealed his plot to an undercover police officer from the US, who he had been talking to online.

OK the prosecution is making their case here in stark terms.
There was also this case I remember well:
Killing of Jennifer Servo

Her killer has never been identified.
It’s Britain. Their legal system is...different.
The jury was told that in October 2023 Mr Plumb, engaged in an online discussion with a person he believed to be called David Nelson.
“In that discussion, the defendant explained his plans to kidnap, rape and murder the celebrity Holly Willoughby”, Ms Morgan said.
She said Mr Plumb’s plans were “graphic and were obviously sexually motivated”.
“They were real to him, members of the jury, and were based on an obsession with Holly Willoughby that had developed over a number of years,” said the prosecutor.
The court was shown a video Mr Plumb sent to the undercover officer when he asked if he was “serious” about the plan.
It showed a “kit of sexualised paraphernalia” laid out on a bed, including hand and ankle shackles, a rope and a ball gag.
Outlining how Plumb came to be arrested, Ms Morgan said: “What the defendant did not know then, was that the person that he was communicating with online was an undercover police officer based in the USA and not, in fact, a like-minded abductor.
“The defendant’s planning of the offences was then interrupted and he was arrested by the police,” she added.
Ms Morgan said during his arrest, Mr Plumb told officers: “I’m not going to lie, [Holly Willoughby] is a fantasy of mine”.

Jesus.. The Prosecutions case appears to be strong. I have may have severely underestimated it ...
