You don’t need a Carrier Battle Group. A few wings of B-52s, dropping full loads of J-SOWS, from 40,000 feet, would settle the Houthi’s hash nicely. . .

...more than 41,000 tonnes of fertiliser, went down...Wouldn't this tend to make the sea water a bit, shall we say, $#|++Y tasting?

Jean Lafitte fought the British at New Orleans. With his help, the US won a major victory.

I want to know why hasn’t shipping in the Red Sea come to a complete halt. Has our government cut a deal with Lloyd’s of London to prop them up in case the losses become too much?

“Way back in my day, this was an act of war!”
Even than not our war. How is a Liberian registered/flagged ship, owned by a company in Athens Greece , crewed by Filipinos and Chinese even remotely an act of war against the USA requiring us to commit billions of American dollars worth of assets and risk 5000+ lives in a carrier for 12 century goat humpers sinking a ship that’s not even remotely American. If the Greece Navy or the Liberian Navy wants to get froggy by all means jump but keep the USA out of it.

The TV says it’s Iran funding them. Do you believe the TV?

No carrier group was in the area.
One that was already extended was finally ordered to return home, and one in Japan was changing home ports and is en route, but there was a gap because of our “brilliant strategies” in the DEI Navy.

It took two weeks to sink? Did I read that correctly? If so, the ship could have easily been saved with some fairly minor damage control.

“..Bummer that we no longer have any influence over ‘Putin’ to hold Iran back. Kind of think it may have something to do with ‘Ukraine policy’, but then again, no, no way, the two are TOTALLY UNRELATED. LOL!....”
With the Ukrainian authorization to use U.S. manufactured missiles to strike deep inside Russia, it would not be the least bit surprising to see these Houthi rebel POSs to somehow end up with a handful of state-of-the-art hypersonics to deal with the next carrier or any other warships, showing up in the area. You know; the old tit for tat thingy.
Meanwhile, old slow Joe may even desire be a secret Houthi himself.....LOL

Yep, that’s my fear. We’ll blame Iran, but of course we know where the rut of the problem is, and that’s DC (and the Zeepers).

Eh not that likely. Most of their arsenal is older ballistic missiles, some anti-ship ones, and not much intelligence. They don't have the real-time targeting capability to make efficient use of fancy missiles on a maneuvering target. Probably don't have the tech to really support the systems it needs either.
Supposedly Iran gave them some hypersonics a while ago, but who knows if those even fly, or may e they were referring to the ballistic missiles...

The first sentence in the excerpt says it sunk "days" after a big rocket barrage. So not quite weeks... And these ships don't usually have much damage control, they aren't warships that expect to take missiles and torpedoes. They might have a couple fire hoses and a lifeboat..
To: Svartalfiar
I guess you’re right but a salvage crew could have been flown in.
