Andrew Cuomo: Bragg, James Cases Wouldn’t Have Been Brought Against Anyone Other than Trump

During the online “Overtime” segment of Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) argued that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against 2024 Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump and New York Attorney General Letitia James’ (D) case against the former President were bad cases that shouldn’t have been brought and wouldn’t have been brought if they were about anyone other than Trump and if Trump wasn’t a presidential candidate.

After host Bill Maher brought up the Bragg case, Cuomo said, “That case, the attorney general’s case in New York, should have never been brought. And if his name was not Donald Trump and he wasn’t running for president — I’m the former A.G. of New York, I’m telling you, that case would have never been brought. And that’s what is offensive to people, and it should be, because if there’s anything left, it’s belief in the justice system.”

Bragg wasn't going to bring the case until Trump announced he was running for office and the DOJ sent Colangelo to give him guidance. Even virulently anti-Republican Cy Vance passed on the case.

Here we are three weeks after the verdict and we still don't know what felony Trump was found guilty of. But Biden will be able to call him a convicted criminal at the debate, and it may sway a small percentage of the electorate.

He’s trying to sanitize himself, as always, when he needs it to deflect attention on his own sins, and maybe gain a few points with the folks he at this point KNOWS are gonna win and win big in November. He is a pathetic loser.

First and foremost he’s aligning himself with the MSM, who he needs more than any specific active “rep” of the Dem or Uni -party—they enabled him all that time, gave him passes when needed, and they will continue being instrumental in the carefully crafted sanitizing process, every step along the way. A “win” for Cuomo, however useless in personal terms for he himself and his future career options, will still radiate outwards and “help” in some small way, everyone in the Party who he associated himself with, and who for a brief time in 2020-21 looked to him as a more-than-ready key player in the Covid Project-—after all, who could be more important than Cuomo ,being at the imaginary “Epicenter” of raging Covid?

He’s not supporting Trump, he’s gently disassociating himself from Bragg & Co’s lawfare efforts. Like a lot of Dems he has read the tea-leaves and seen they’s NOTHING to be gained by playing like you’re a part of “the Squad”— It’s a thoroughly cynically crafted “position”, like all his positions, and designed to get him “talked about”—he’s in effect “taking a bullet” for the Party, with the understanding that there’s a lot to be gained by this kind of pseudo-honorable shift in position, at long last and when it’s safe to do so-—If FACT though everything Cuomo did in 2020-2021 paved the way in no uncertain terms, for where we are today.
