The North Korean adventure is some of the best recent proof we have of the depravity of DC. Trump made massive progress nobody dreamed possible. Literally walked across that border, and brought kim into South Korea. Instead of a package of threats, he presented him away that North Korea could’ve started down the path towards wealth. He read kim like a book. He realized he’s trapped in a system and wants to survive without getting killed. He realizes that essentially he’s a fatherless kid. At a bare minimum, the conflict could’ve ended, and separated families could’ve probably started visiting. But people like Bolton and others loudly worked against everything he said and did.
Congress was actively working on setting up his first impeachment. kim was smart enough to realize that any deal he made with Trump was essentially meaningless because all of DC was trying to depose President Trump.
There would be little point in kim concluding a agreement with someone who is likely to be thrown out of office by impeachment three or four months later. Washington DC showed their ass to the world. The last thing they want is any sort of peace moves.
People (Bolton especially) forget Trump smoothed over difficulties with Kim that could have lead to nucelar consequences. Trump has done more to improve US/NK relations than any other president ever.

IMHO, There is some good insight in that analysis.
When dealing with such autocracies, you must essentially deal with the personality of the autocrat.
