Alec Baldwin engaged in ‘horseplay’ with firearm before deadly ‘Rust’ shooting, prosecutors say

Alec Baldwin was sloppy and reckless with firearms on the set of “Rust” before the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, prosecutors have contended.

According to court documents obtained by ETonline, the 66-year-old leading man engaged in “horseplay” during firearm training, including one instance when he fired a blank round at a crew member, whom he’d been using to establish his line of sight. Prosecutors further alleged Baldwin was also “erratic and aggressive” during filming, contributing to safety concerns on set.

Baldwin would also allegedly use his prop firearm as a pointer, relying on it to acknowledge and direct different people while filming. Prosecutors in their latest filing additionally accused him of firing the weapon on at least one occasion despite the fact that “cut” had already been called.

Baldwin was rehearsing a scene inside the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, N.M., when he mistakenly shot Hutchins on Oct. 21, 2021. He was seated in a church pew, practicing a move in which he whips a pistol from its holster, when it suddenly went off. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also struck in the shoulder.

Earlier this year, “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection with Hutchins’ death and was ordered to spend 18 months in jail.

Baldwin, who has long insisted he did not pull the trigger prior to the deadly gunfire, is meanwhile scheduled to go to trial on July 9 in Santa Fe, where he will also face a count of manslaughter. Prosecutors have also said Baldwin, who served as a producer for “Rust,” often ignored Gutierrez-Reed when she was providing him instruction, and that he would often rush cast and crew to keep them as close to on schedule as possible.

What’s more, when filming resumed on “Rust” after the deadly gunfire, this time in Montana, prosecutors day Baldwin insisted on not being held to industry safety standards.

If convicted, the Emmy-winning actor faces up to 18 months behind bars.

Yes, was he actually in the part, actually acting in the scene part, at the time?

I saw the clips where he was yelling and screaming at the staff - constantly. That doesn’t sound like “horseplay” to me.

I suspect Baldwin shot Halyna Hutchins on purpose because he was having an affair with her and, because of his marriage, wanted her out of the way. This was no Russian Roulette situation with one live round in the cylinder set to go off due to random bad luck. I believe he had the live round in his pocket, took it out and loaded it in the cylinder in the ready position, to go off with a pull of the trigger. IMHO.

He then killed a woman and gravely wounded another man because “someone” left a live round in the pistol.

That’s one thing that left me puzzled. Even if, as someone claimed, they use a real firearm with blanks “for authenticity,” why wouldn’t they keep it under constant control and NEVER load it with real ammo?

This seems like common sense.

Y-you mean he really is an idiot? Well, at least he showed that the NRA isn’t the boss of him, with their gun safety protocols.

I do not like Baldwin, but I think this case is BS. He was filming a scene when he fired the gun. He obviously thought there were blanks in the gun. There was a person hired to check the safety of the guns. So, when the director says “action,” is Baldwin supposed to say “stop,” let’s recheck the gun? BTW, wouldn’t the director who got killed have a duty to check the gun, too? We have a word for what happened here—NEGLIGENCE. Not criminal negligence, but civil negligence.

I’m sure it will come up in trial if true, but stories at the time suggested a partial cast walkoff over safety concerns. That’s going to be difficult to explain in terms other than consistent disregard of standard safety procedures that all actors are supposed to be briefed on during every shoot. Other stories claimed that Baldwin disdained to attend them. At some point even for a mere actor that’s actionable, and Baldwin was more than that.

Everting was NOT filming a scene. He was rehearsing. He chose to point it at the victim and fire the weapon. He’s a killer

Your #1 precaution is for real life, not movie making which is make-believe.

Baldwin the producer was supposed to give Baldwin the actor a safe environment to act in, and failed. Whether that negligence is criminal is for a jury to decide. But it seems to me that the prosecutors do not have a clue what the real issues are.

“I always took him as an anti-gun nut who thinks all guns are icky.”

He is and does, but gun haters libs have no problem compromising their precious virtue signaling about guns if it furthers they’re movie career and increases their bank accounts.

If you notice, the most vocal lib entertainers almost always already independently wealthy.

Here's the YT video that shows all of the above. The most alarming part is when he runs up to the boulders, then turns, aims the gun at the camera crew, then fires.
