Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is scheduled to sign an executive order to issue more than 175,000 pardons for marijuana convictions Monday, the governor's office said.
The administration is describing the pardons as the largest state pardon to date. The governor's action regarding cases relating to use of paraphernalia make Maryland the first state to take such action, his office said.
Recreational cannabis was legalized in Maryland in 2023 after voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2022 with 67% of the vote. Maryland decriminalized possession of personal use amounts of cannabis on Jan. 1, 2023. Now, 24 states and the District of Columbia have legalized recreational cannabis.

This is certain to create a big buzz.
Anyone who is incarcerated simply for using marijuana should be exonerated. How many of these people, however, actually committed other crimes and pled down to marijuana use?
When they change a law to make something legal that was illegal.
They should vacate all the previous convictions.
The RATS are really lookin’ out for their gangbanger gangstahs. I imagine the next move will be Neanderthal judges will be awarding them big money for being “wrongly incarcerated” by da white Supremes.
We will have to wait til the smoke clears to measure the effects.
When they raised the speed limit on the interstate highway going through my city from 55 mph to 70 mph, I want a pardon and refund for the speeding ticket I got as a teen.
I never got my fines back when they raised the speeding limit, so NO!
Many of those convictions were likely plead down from crimes like theft or actual dealing.
Via 2022 referendum, Maryland voters overwhelmingly approved recreational cannabis use - over 2/3 in favor. Medical cannabis has been legal for 5+ years in Maryland. I’m having a hard time getting worked up about putting these 175,000 people at par with current times.
That’s why you can’t walk 50 feet anywhere in Maryland and not smell weed. Disgusting. And it causes 95% of the “anxiety and depression” cases.
“actually committed other crimes and pled down to marijuana use?”
That is the question, isn’t it?

Personal Body Odor. Bad Breath. Diesel fumes. Nasty perfume/cologne. Crappy Restaurant stank. Fresh Durian or rotten fruit in the Fall. Poorly deployed Mulch. Cow/Goat/Chicken/Dog/Cat crapola.
Lots of stuff stinks.
A bit of Chiba in the breeze smells like Freedom to me.
Governor Step’n Fetchit once again caved to his masters.
This has a real “Nero fiddles while Rome burns” vibe to it. His state is going to Hell in a handbasket, and this is his big initiative.
we just have to make sure they realize that the reason they are doing this is to make sure they get them to vote democrat, against Trump.
so they owe this to Trump, actually.
Lock them up for those seeds and a joint because it makes stupid people feel powerful
Daily Mail had an article, calling Wes Moore the next Obama, ready to step in for Biden at the Convention. What did he do to justify this accolade? He rebuilt the Francis Scott Key Bridge, that may have been sabotage.
When I went back to the Daily Mail, the article was shrinking. Paragraphs explaining that FOX News had asked him on air, if he was ready to step in had disappeared.it doesn’t appear that the Democrats want this guy investigated before the Convention.
