‘Are You Moving Out Of California?’
American Thinker ^ | 06/15/2024 | Robin Itzler

Posted on 06/15/2024 8:51:19 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Several weeks ago, I flew to Texas to visit my friend Mollie, who had left California in 2022. Whenever I told someone I was going to Texas, their first question was, “Are you moving out of California?”

How different from when I moved to California in 1977…

“I’m so jealous!” That was the reaction of family and friends when my husband and I announced that, after one year of marriage, we were leaving New York. It was a difficult decision because I was close to my parents, particularly my mother. For us, the primary reason was the weather. We did not enjoy humid summers or frozen winters and wanted to move before devoting years to our careers.

In our early 20s, relocating across the country felt like an exciting adventure, especially since California was still paradise with its snow-capped mountains and glistening beaches. From the streets of San Francisco to the glitter of Hollywood and from magical Disneyland to Old Town San Diego, almost everyone wanted to live or vacation in California.

Today, leaving California is part of the conversation. Almost every Californian knows someone who has left the state and others (including themselves) who are thinking about relocating. How fast can you say Texas, Florida, Idaho, Tennessee, South Carolina … It’s ABC as people want to live Anywhere But California due to lurid high taxes, escalating crime, the nation’s highest poverty rate, the influx of illegal migrants who are given freebies, plus an exploding homeless population, to name a few reasons to leave.

Gavin Newsom is U-Haul’s salesman of the year—every year!

So, y’all I spent four wonderful days in beautiful Georgetown, still a conservative stronghold outside of Austin. But Austin’s liberal population is growing.

“The Communist control everything in CA”

The communists control everything in the entire USA in case you have been asleep

“outnumbered by illegals, foreign nationals and paroles”

Texas says hi

“All the schools are commie colleges indoctrinating all the kiddies to hate whitey.”

In other words literally every school in the entire USA

Keep posting that stuff. Maybe you’ll convince yourself CA is still somehow a really cool groovy place. Maybe try peddling it to someone who’ll actually buy it. No sale here.☺

I live in Palm Desert Ca. I moved her from the beach area in Ventura county, the beaches have become a haven for the homeless, my home and car had been broken into many times NOTHING ever done!! I moved to the desert BECAUSE it is to damn hot to pitch a tent and live on the street! Moved into a gated community with guards at the gate, CA. IS DONE!! NOTHING will EVER bring her back, we now have ALL mail in voting and we will be under a ONE PARTY DEM RULE just as WA., OR., CO., I don’t know how to fix this ALL people who vote Republican have given up and are fleeing the state!! I am single 72 years old AND the ONLY DAMN REASON I decided to stay in the state is the weather!! I honestly thought of going to FL. however with the hurricanes ect. I decided against it!! I was going to relocate to AZ. however I see AZ. headed for trouble also!! If I were younger with a family I would GET THE HELL out of this state, CA. will NEVER, EVER come back it has gone WAY PAST the point of no return WAY PAST IT!! The cost of housing, food, utilities, have become so bad that homelessness will continue to grow, the weather is perfect for the homeless, pitch a tent right on the beach AND NO ONE does a damn thing about it! Shoplift up to $1000.00 NO CONSEQUENCES, break into homes and businesses, cars, NO PROBLEM!!! This IS such a beautiful state with the MOST PERFECT weather and it has become a sewer!! I frankly do not understand HOW IN THE HELL the cost of housing here just keeps going up and up, NO ONE can afford a typical middle class home for a million dollars, I would think that prices would be plummeting but they are not, the bottom has to be reached at some point!!

My last 15 years in S.CA we never went back to the beach, but did have a view to the coast. The people who live right on the coast hate the tourist, traffic, homeless and criminals that descend on the CA beach cities in warmer weather. It’s a nasty crowded zoo with all the wrong people. S. CA was a good place to live decades ago....That’s all gone now...

#15 I moved to California in 1988. I was selling everything I had at the time and a couple came by to buy the washer and dryer I had. I mentioned where I was moving to. They were surprised as they were from there and were moving to Minnesota. They said I would find out why after I moved there.

I guess they saw the changes going on. Now my area in the NW part of the San Fernando valley has lots of homeless camps and crime and very little being done about it. The homeless have been pushed out of my area in the last few months with giant concrete blocks on the side of the road to block campers but I think only because gov Newsom is running to president. After Nov they homeless will be allowed to come back.

Once California Democrats got power they arranged things so that they would never lose power, but did they really have to cheat their way into power?

to be frank, pretty much our whole country is gone....even decent states will eventually break...

people hate NYS but that's where I grew up and still love upstate to this day and visit at least yearly...

California is a gorgeous state and its sad what's been done...

it won't be the illegals that will be its biggest problem...it will be the home grown criminals that now do whatever they please....

This article misses the top factor that people depart from California - absurdly high cost of living. Even for those of us who were fortunate to buy homes years ago, the cost of everything else - groceries, insurance, gas, restaurants - everything you buy frequently - has skyrocketed since the pandemic. Of course this is due to the $20 minimum wage, high taxes, high real estate, excessive regulation, absurd environmental rules, but the bottom line is that most people find they can save 25% or more just by relocating to NV, AZ, not to mention ID, FL, TX. Plus massive tax reduction.

The only reason people stay in California is to work highly paid non-remote jobs and for the mild climate which I have not found elsewhere in the USA. My parents will never leave because all their friends are here, but like the author, that’s not enough to keep me here.

This 4th generation California will be gone as soon as my youngest finishes high school. California is losing its brighest young people as the low cost UC schools favor immigrants and others “first generation” students.

This is part of the plan, to push out “privileged” suburban families. Of course it is not working out so well as it has devasted the tax base, resulting in a massive budget deficit. The death spiral has begun.

GOP gifted California to the Demorats in second Clinton election. They walked away… abandoned their supporters. Trump is revitalizing those who have been abandoned. Times they are a changing. Thanks be to God.

It’s brilliant to move out of California after selling your home for a million and going to a state and buying the same home for 350K. You would have enough money in reserves to have a great life.
