More likely, just random, senseless gangland stuff.

My first assumption was "dispute between teens" but this is a very white neighborhood (see my post above) and apparently the shooter just shot randomly into the crowd from the parking lot.

Suburban Detroit.
The citizens of Detroit have done to their city what Pontiac and his Ottawas could not do back in 1764.

Sprayers, sprinklers, fountains, The one at the Hoover Met in Hoover AL is awesome. its also very crowded, but the kids enjoy it.

In the not too distant past, Rochester Hills was upper middle class/mildly rich.

I didn't know what a splash pad was either and I'm just north of the Atlanta beltway.   I was guessing it was slang for some wealthy ultramodern palatial home that makes a big splash.

Is it that they’re named differently in different places or simply don’t exist? I think mostly the latter. You are going to find them more in municipal areas that spend money on parks and recreation and have a fair number of children like here.

You’d think most grandparents would have taken their grandkids to splash parks if they existed in the area...

Whoops, I used the local name “splash parks” instead of pad.

Does this account for the recent indifference to the quarterly fundraisers to the point our site benefactors have to beg for us to dig deeper to raise what’s needed? No one is getting rich off F.R.s minimal fundraisers, much less people with medical bills. Please give more if you can, to cover for those who apoarently can’t be bothered.
This site is unique and essential. Where would you all go otherwise? Thank you.

I don't think that's it.   As I mentioned I'm in the Atlanta metro area not far from Truist Park where the Braves play and if I leave through the back way out of my subdivision, I can turn right, and then right again into the entrance to Six Flags White Water | Georgia's Most Thrilling Water Park.   That must be why I didn't know what a splash pad was.

But actually I think as you alluded to, that is not what it would be called down here.

I don’t understand what you’re saying. Since splash (pads)/parks typically are constructed under the city parks and recreation budget (unless they’re private), of course you aren’t going g to find as many in stagnant areas with few young families and lower tax base.

I’ve never heard of a “splash pad,” either. Is that a water park?

I thought this might be a story about golf.

If I don’t understand the headline the story is usually about golf.

In my area I think city planners and other officialdom call them ...pads and ordinary people call them ...parks.
