President Joe Biden and Donald Trump will face off in a 90-minute debate with mutable microphones, broadcaster CNN said Saturday, as it laid ground rules for the first in-person clash between the pair ahead of November's election.
The rules for the June 27 debate, which will have two hosts and no studio audience, were agreed by the Biden and Trump campaigns, according to CNN.
"Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip," the channel said, adding that microphones "will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak."
No props or notes will be allowed on stage, with candidates only given a pen, pad of paper and a bottle of water, CNN said.
It said the debate, hosted in Atlanta, Georgia, will last 90 minutes with two commercial breaks -- during which campaign staff cannot interact with their candidate.
"Some aspects of the debate –- including the absence of a studio audience –- will be a departure from previous debates," CNN said.
But, the network said, moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash -- both star news anchors for CNN -- "will use all tools at their disposal to enforce timing and ensure a civilized discussion."

“Hey, kid. Howya doin’? Yer lookin’ pretty good for someone who had his melon split open like’at. So young, too. [*sniiiiff*] But yer a big boy, aincha? You look pretty big to me. You can han’le it. Listen, I know whass like to be all mummied up an’ in th’ hospital. Had some annurizms. Yeah. But I beat it. You can, too. An’ grow up big ‘n’ strong like my boy Beau. Say, I hear the Pope is runnin’ ‘round here somewheres. I’ll sen’ ‘im over t’ say hi an’ bless ya. ‘Kay?”
The pope isn’t even looking at Joe.
I'd love to see this during the debate. (Holding up a large copy of this check.)
TRUMP: And Joe... Can you explain the puropse of this loan repayment? Some people claim you boys are money laundering, but that can't be true, right
Joe’s team insisted there be no audience for the debate - which explains why it’s being hosted by CNN.
Post of the Day !! LOL
Excellent point!
Congrats!
LOL! That’s a good one!
Jake Tapper and Dana Bash — both star news anchors for CNN “
2 of the most shameless rat propagandists alive today and they control the cameras and mics. Traitor Joe will have been given the questions and the order they will be asked in bank it.
Why the hell is Trump agreeing to this bullsh**? Without question anything Trump says that they disagree with they will be cut off. At least make a deal where he would do the debate if Biden agreed to a second debate with Mark Levin as the moderator.
The “no notes” provision throws a monkey wrench into Biden’s debate plans.
In the FR thread, “WHCA Throws Biden Under the Bus, Claims He Has ‘Deals’ With the Press”, Biden snapped at a reporter for daring to ask a question about Hamas (b/c the subject that Biden had prepared for, with notes ready, was Ukraine and the G7).
That raised again the question of what kind of journo deals Biden has going?
<><>he says he calls on pre-selected reporters
<><>then reads back answers from pre-made notes,
<><>this looks like it was an arranged deal
<><>that Biden knows what question is coming
<><>that Biden is unable to respond spontaneously
<><>that the president of the US has pre-arranged q’s and a’s.
“While the White House does determine the number of reporters the president will recognize, it is up to professional journalists to decide what to ask. Any leader may prefer that reporters ask only one question or ask only about a topic that is of most interest to the president or another world leader, but a free press functions independently.” She added, “WHCA would welcome more opportunities to pose a range of questions to the president in a press conference setting.”
They appear to be throwing Biden under the bus for saying there are no “deals.” So in order to save face, they’re saying what Biden is telling us is not true. On the other hand, if we believe that there are deals, that’s also problematic........that Biden needs/wants such an accommodation.
Yes, at times he might not have the information he’s queried about, but if a president can’t answer questions on the fly, that’s a big problem.......while Biden’s statement says, “journalists decide what to ask,” it doesn’t clarify whether questions are given to Biden or his team in advance.......
That is a picture of the “not really” pope and the “not really” president.
Bet that bottle of water isn’t just H2O..
Remember that Ms Bash’s hubby is a former CIA bigshot who signed the “classic Russian disinfo” letter to give Biden a leg up in his previous debate.
How about a little recusal?
************
Not needed by the one who knows the questions in advance.
“What about the drug test Trump insisted on?”
**********
Apparently he wasn’t really insisting. He had a hammer and didn’t use it.
The moderators will gang up on Trump. Joe Biden will be able to say his name. So it'll be a "win" for Biden.
Trump shouldn't debate unless somebody like Sean Hannity is the moderator (Biden's handlers will. Ever after to that).
He could bring it up during the debate, with a neutral medical team at the ready to administer the tests right then and there at the close.
Muted mics may be a big problem, depending on who has control of the Mute button. Biden will be able to speak as long as he appears coherent, when he stumbles they’ll probably mute his mic and shift to Trump then they’ll try and mute Trump when he’s landing knockouts. The only bright spot in this arrangement is that Biden will be ready to collapse after 45 minutes and that’s only the halfway point.
For the good of the country it would be a blessing if Biden hat a wall at about 50 minutes and couldn’t continue.
“Why the hell is Trump agreeing to this bullsh**?”

He’s in a great position to demand terms and conditions to his benefit, but he won’t do it. No surprise because because he loves the stage. This is not the kind of softness that inspires people to donate to him.
He’s walking into a well planned ambush by CNN. There’s far too much at stake to have allowed them to stack the deck.
