Rick Scott knocks McConnell, calls for new leadership to help Trump in second term

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who is running to head up a potential GOP majority in 2025, knocked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) Friday, saying former President Trump is going to need new leadership to help support his agenda for a possible second term.

“We have Republicans in the Senate that are caving to Democrats for all sorts of horrible bills. Now, remember this so-called infrastructure bill? … That required Republican votes. Guess who gave it to ‘em? Mitch McConnell,” Scott told a crowd at The People’s Convention in Detroit, organized by the conservative activist group Turning Point Action.

He argued McConnell, who announced earlier this year that he would step down from his leadership post, “teams up with a few Republicans and gives the Democrats the votes they need.”

“Donald Trump had four years. He’s gonna have another four years. What’s going to slow him down? Washington insiders. Cause he needs — he’s gonna need a House and a Senate that supports his agenda,” Scott continued. “If we don’t get new leadership we’ll get the same old stuff. More spending, more debt, higher interest rates.”

McConnell should go. He needs to be replaced by someone younger, with a spine to stand up to the democrats’ BS., a solid Trump supporter.

McConnell is giving up his Senate leadership position, but unfortunately will serve out his Senate term, which ends in January 2027.

He wants the job. Why give the turtle a push on the way out. If he’sstillthe leader then there’s really a problem. If the rats keep the senate the leader should be Cruz or Rand.

If Rick Scott can push The Turtle out of the way, he will be a hero, if for just one play.

Turtle McConnell is the least popular politician in the country, yet he remains the minority leader in the U.S. Senate. That speaks volumes about the RINOs in the U.S. Senate.

Rick Scott needs to pay more attention to his November reelection.

His Democrat opponent is a white female who is running a good campaign. Most recent poll - just 2 points down, which is within the margin of error.

The impressive DeSantis and Rubio reelections may have created Florida GOP complacency.

Scott won in 2018 by 0.12% - just 10,000 votes.

Setting aside his political positions, Scott has a personality problem. He’s not likable.

I meet him at a local gun show earlier in his career. Both him and his entourage were “creepy”. Talking with friends and family, I am often of told similar feelings.

I not suggesting that it a reason not to vote for him. I just think his personality is a handicap in the general election.

What is troubling is scott does not have 50+% in the latest poll.
Biggest problem is the ballot this year has both pro abortion and marijuana referendums and both are heavily dem issues. Add in never trust anyone with a hyphenated last name running.

All of the posturing by politicians is hard to keep up with, mostly just theatre. Trump and McConnell are not speaking, are disparaging each other until they are suddenly friends; Trump and Johnson the same, then Trump comes and saves him. Theatre. Most of these folks will talk up in front of the media and on camera, then go to lunch or dinner with each other as friends. It would be good to see them give up the theatre and work together to solve a few things.

“McConnell is giving up his Senate leadership position, but unfortunately will serve out his Senate term, which ends in January 2027.”

Most Congressmen and Senators “retire” after giving up their leadership positions, even though they say they will stay on. Witness Gingrich, Hastert, Boehner, and McCarthy. Paul Ryan stayed to the end of his term after announcing he was giving up his seat and the Speaker position, but he stayed in the speaker job to the end of his term.

Most who have held the reins of power are egomaniacs who can’t stand sitting as a powerless back bencher once someone else is in the driver’s seat. I can’t imagine McConnell hanging around for 2 years as a nobody in the Senate.

Pelosi is the only powerful politician in recent years who has given up the party leadership position and stayed in Congress. However, it is entirely possible Hakim Jeffries as minority leaders is a sham and Pelosi is really directing Hakim.

“egomaniacs who can’t stand sitting as a powerless back bencher”

Good observations and facts. Thanks.

Mitch did his job....got judges appointed and prevented a Dem from getting appointed to the USSC. The man knows the system. He's turning over the leadership reins without Scott's bs..but will remain in the Senate until his term is up...which is a few years.

Scot is trying to make himself relevant.
