A side of Massie is currently to be seen in an interesting and, yes, charming, wide-ranging interview. Two hours of insight into a very intelligent libertarian with a very likable aspect.

I personally felt that the USA “guaranteeing the security” of places like Montenegro was a joke and excuse for fraud, and the baltics a meaningless and empty provocation to Russia.

NATO should have ended in 1991 and been replaced with bilateral agreements with the UK and Germany only.

I've been saying this for a long time now. NATO's principal function at this time is to allow the EU to avoid building its own armed forces. Until it does this it has no valid claim to being a sovereign nation.

The underlying premise to the continuation of this state of affairs is that it is in the interest of the American citizens tasked to pay for it. That premise is, by now, close to indefensible, which is why American politicians avoid it like the plague.

Exactly. Which is why I say get us out of NATO and the UN. Both are bent on undermining US sovereignty little by little.

Massie is fact-deficient as usual.

Allowing the EU to take control of NATO (Clinton did this) is what endangers US security.

The expansion wasn’t designed to improve US security.

The guy is my congressman. He has pi$$ed off AIPAC with his positions and will get an AIPAC full court primary in two years. It’ll be the same with Rand Paul. That’s the only reason I’m still a registered Republican.

What has NATO ever done for the USA?

Sure it has. Instead of the limp-wristed Germans, Danes, Belgians, Italians, et al, we’ve got all those former East Bloc people, who hate the despotic Russians, on the front line. Hard to convince them that Russian intentions are benign.

NATO served its purpose during the Cold War.

Now it’s just another power-hungry, bloated, corrupt organization.

Anyone who thinks the American people would willingly commit their sons to die for Bulgaria or Latvia...or to lose entire cities to protect those backwaters...is just plain stupid.

Most Americans have no idea what our Presidents and Senators have committed us to.

“Allowing the EU to take control of NATO (Clinton did this) is what endangers US security.”

Nonsense.

Simply being in NATO, committed to defending 36 other countries up to and including existential nuclear war, is the essential threat to US security.

90% of Americans could not name 1/2 dozen of those countries or even point to them on a map. Additionally, beyond the original members we don’t even have substantial commercial interests in them...and therefore no real interests at all.

The only thing that can improve our security is isolationism.

It’s not just unlimited liability for 36 other countries. But unlimited liability for the Deep States of those countries, which may not be in the control of the Governments.

For example the US Regime now claims that the NordStream bombing was carried out by the Ukraine military, but “Zelensky didn’t know”.

(more likely it was carried out by USA and UK Deep States, and those gov’t didn’t know.)

LOL, false characterization of NATO.

Allowing the EU to take control of NATO undermined one of the chief tenets of that treaty, to keep a certain wannabe belligerent country at the heart of that continent down. It also reversed the chief geopolitical achievement of 1991.
