Disney feud with DeSantis quashed with development agreement

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney have put an end to their years-long feud, allowing for the development of Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando for the next 15 years.

DeSantis' five appointees on the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District gave final approval on Wednesday to a deal that would allow the entertainment giant to make infrastructure improvements, CBS reported. In exchange, the company will spend at least $8 billion on the resort over the next decade with a total of $17 billion invested over 10 to 20 years.

Under the deal, Disney has gotten approval to build a fifth theme park and two more minor parks, like water parks. It can now expand retail and office space and add about 14,000 hotel rooms, bringing the resort's total to nearly 54,000, Reuters reported.

FLASHBACK

We have consistently fought — and won — the big fights on behalf of the people.

When Disney went after our kids, I stood strong.

Donald Trump and Nikki Haley sided with Disney. Haley even invited them to her state.

They were wrong. https://t.co/FkypA1DemQ— Ron DeSantis (@RonDeSantis) December 5, 2023

“Avatarland” with a water park and amusement park.

Disney has stupid Avatar rides at Walt Disney World. The senseless animatronics speak nonsense words that kids marvel over, probably because they spoke that way, when they were nine months old.

“Nyah zhur prrilick suh?”

Freakin’ crazy stuff.

I really don’t see the two issues being related. No way was Florida going to deny the expansion, but the headline makes it sound like it’s a swap of some kind. The article itself doesn’t clear it up.

Nobody cares what is said. It is just background for the visual effects.

I remember very well when the fearful on this site warned Disney and its trillions would squash Florida like a bug for opposing the grooming of children.

America’s Governor has just kicked Disney’s butt; again.

The fight is certainly not over. Disney’s strategy at this point is to lay low for a couple of years until America’s Governor terms out; then turn the plastic rat’s lobbyists loose with bags of cash for the always hungry RINO legislators and then get everything back.

Satan, it seems, always has a plan B.

We have always been at war with Leftmania.

>>America’s Governor has just kicked Disney’s butt; again.

Did you read the same article as the rest of us?

>>”DeSantis’ five appointees on the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District gave final approval on Wednesday to a deal that would allow the entertainment giant to make infrastructure improvements, CBS reported. In other words Disney got approval to make infrastructure improvements to their properties. And what did they have to give in exchange? A promise to build a fifth theme park and two minor theme park. In other words, they’ve agreed to do what they wanted to do all along. More “defeats” like that and Disney stock will end up doubling over the next 6 months.

Disney: “Pleezze don’t throw us in the briar patch, Mr. DeSantis! Pleezze don’t make us expand our theme park!”

“Disney: “Pleezze don't throw us in the briar patch, Mr. DeSantis! Pleezze don't make us expand our theme park!”

Perhaps you don't recall the history of this.

When America's Governor pushed back on the plastic rat's huffing and puffing because the legislature passed anti child grooming legislation the timid here on this site said the all-powerful corporation would stop investing in Florida, move their theme parks to somewhere else, throw all their debt onto the backs of local taxpayers, and sue the state into oblivion for sassing the perversion community.

The plastic rat's lawsuits have gone nowhere; and their theme parks are staying put. And now the plastic rat has announced the sovereign state of Florida is a great place to invest billions and billions of dollars.

And the Reedy Creek District is controlled by appointees of the governor, not corporate Disney. Disney can ask politely for permission to invest and the fair-minded district board makes decisions that are in the public interest.

I'm certain Disney is just as perverted as ever, but I don't think you will see their drag queens at the elementary schools again - at least until America's Governor is termed out of office.

I remember the history very well. No need to recount it. And as the article points out, there is still ongoing litigation in federal court over the issue. In the meantime, Disney got the permits they wanted and were “forced” into expanding their theme park. So when you talk about DeSantis kicking Disney’s butt AGAIN, all you’re doing is looking back at the past and calling it a new victory rather than responding to what just happened.

“In the meantime, Disney got the permits they wanted . . .”

But others - maybe you - fretted so loud when Disney just last year claimed they didn't want to investment in Florida: One Billion Dollars Lost because DeSantis made them mad!

https://www.npr.org/2023/05/18/1176931662/disney-cancels-plans-for-1-billion-florida-campus

America's Governor didn't scare and now Disney, hat in hand, requests Reedy Creek Board permission to invest $17 billion; in Florida.

Governor DeSantis publicly gave Disney the back of his hand and made them like it.

I just wish other Republicans knew how to challenge liberals and win.

Hat in hand? Disney got what they wanted, Wednesday. What did they give up to get it?

“Still reliving stories from a year ago and calling them new wins, I see.”

I hate to be persistent, but the story from a year ago claimed the plastic rat was winning and punishing America’s Governor.

This week, last year’s claim has been proven to be a lie; Disney has actually thrown in the towel and begging to invest in Florida. This win is as current as today.

But go ahead and savor the notion that the plastic rat is still in court fighting for the right to groom children.

I want none of that.

To be fair to you, your citing of the article was in service of making a point, that Disney has changed their tune and now wants to invest in Florida. But you fail to understand that Disney never seriously considered divesting from Florida or ever wanted to. Their most valuable properties reside in Florida. Their comments from a 2023 article reflect a negotiating position, nothing more. And they rightly understood that their economic leverage in Florida is substantial.

They rightly understood that DeSantis would never force them out of Florida or cause serious harm to the value of their Florida properties, as doing so would have a significant negative impact on Florida and would be politically damaging to DeSantis. The agreement this past Wednesday demonstrates that better than anything. If it was ever DeSantis’s intention to force Disney to divest from Florida, this agreement can only be interpreted as a loss for him.
