I think it's for show. That way the dems can claim that the rule of law still exists in this country and nobody is above the law.

Then they'll give him a ridiculous sentence like community service and/or probation and after it blows over, they'll get a pardon from someone, or a mistrial will be declared or it'll be over turned on an appeal.

I wouldn't doubt it. Plus, it seems like they prosecuted him on these charges so they could avoid charging him with the much worse crimes that he's committed - like influence peddling to foreign country, i.e., Ukraine and his references of bribery payments to his father, the "Big Guy".
