What happens when almost 2,000 teenagers show up to a quiet hamlet in New York with shotguns in tow? A good time is had by all.
The 2024 New York State High School Clay Target League State Tournament took place at the Bridgeport Rod & Gun Club in Bridgeport, New York this past weekend, with thousands of teens participating from most parts of the state. The five boroughs were woefully underrepresented, thanks in large part to the anti-gun ideology that's so entrenched in the Big Apple, but students from more than 130 high schools were on hand as the targets started flying.

We had a shooting club at one of my schools. Guys would bring their 22s and stack them in the cloak room.
The New York State High School Clay Target League has been growing by leaps and bounds since its inaugural season less than ten years ago,

Lots of schools have trap teams. Great sport.
Sounds like a great event.
Skeet and trap are so much fun. Everyone should try it sometime in there lives. I grew up working in the skeet fields during big shoots . I went to the nationals in Huntington Pa and had a blast. These anti gun morons haven’t got a clue. The shooting sports taught me so much growing up. I am glad to see it’s still alive somewhere.
Two of my grandkids were on their high school trap shooting team. Both went to the state finals their senior year, and did well.
You are correct, it’s a great character builder. They both have remained friends with a few of their teammates. All great kids.
My son used to participate in in 4H shotgun sports, with the pinnacle being the state competition.
a boy with only 1 shotgun would have it fail, and the boy competing next to him would lend him his spare to finish the match.
You would be hard pressed to find another group of young men and young women who were probably more polite and respectful than they were focused on competition.
The teens in Chicago got to teach those teens how to commit crime!! 🤓
Same thing is currently happening here in San Antonio with the USAYESS competition at the National Shooting Complex, although not as big an event.
2k kids event will happen in mid-July at the Texas State 4-H championships also held at the NSC.
In NE PA, 1970’s, guys rode to school in pickup trucks with gun racks. No one gave a thought to there being guns on school property.

Yep, pretty standard back in that time. Had to display your
weapons for all to see.
Positive news.
Best score I could achieve in trap was 19/25. But a friebd was so good he bever missed.
... deadly arms everywhere and I would bet the only accident was someone dropped their cup of lemonade ...

At 12 I had my first shotgun, my brother and I hunted quail and dove with the men. (both my father’s and grandfather’s age) I still have that single barrel shotgun.
On quail, instinct shooting is the only thing that works. Cannot be taught with clay birds.
In 1960’s a 16 year old could drive in NY State with a breech open 22 on the back window shelf so troopers could see it and give you the nod.
Every kid that learns to shoot safely and effectively is a threat to the left and they know it.
Insurrection!!
