Battered by far right, France’s Macron bets big on risky snap election

In European Parliament elections Sunday night, the far right surged in nations including Germany and Austria, but nowhere with more impact than in France. The far-right National Rally there clobbered the ruling centrist coalition, so much so that French President Emmanuel Macron called for snap legislative elections. His bet: That voters may be angry at him, but are not truly prepared to allow the pick of Marine Le Pen — the fiery doyenne of French nationalist, euroskeptic, anti-immigration politics — to head a new French government.

It’s a bet that may exact a high price.

Already, the uncertainty was reflected in the French stock market on Monday, while the mayor of Paris dubbed the dissolution of parliament ahead of the Olympics “extremely disturbing.”

The morning after the once-every-five-years European Parliament elections, populist and anti-immigrant parties across Europe were reflecting on a mixed night. Pro-European parties appeared to have won a majority of seats in the E.U.'s legislative body. And far-right parties lost ground in long illiberal Hungary, as well as in Poland.

But they celebrated their strong showing in the heart of Europe, claiming the largest share of seats in both France and Italy and placing second in Germany. That performance, combined with solid returns for center-right parties, translated into a rightward tilt for the European Union’s political establishment, five months before U.S. elections.

The losers? Green parties facing a backlash from voters tiring of the cost of combating climate change, and the political centrists in power at Europe’s core.

The election results underscored the extraordinary transformation of the European far right from groups once...

Far right in Europe = center right in USA.

Yeah, no MAGA-types in Europe.

Macron could ask Biden and democrats in America about how to steal elections. That might be his only hope.

The communist U.S. press will never use the term “far left” when referring to Euro political parties, only “far right”.

Far right in Europe has nothing to do with “the right” in the USA.

In Europe the right and left are both for BIG government.
We have a limited form of government that is mislabeled as “far right”.

Limited government, set by our founders, limits the government’s power. There’s no other standard in the world we can compare it to-—anything to the right of “Limited government” would be considered anarchy and to the left is bloated to tyrannical.

Those supporting limited government are actually “Centrists”....Europe’s far right are literally BIG government leftists here in the USA.

Yep, we are at a huge disadvantage given the growing size of government and government power over the recent decades.

In USA, "center right" represents guys like Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy. They're not that much different from the Democratic Party, really.

The only issue they may be solid on is the Second Amendment. I think that's it.

They agree with the Democrats on every other issue.

The Washington ComPost thinks people who believe Frederic Bastiat makes more sense with his economic theories than Karl Marx are far right. Maybe people who have even read or studied Bastiat. Or even know who he is.

Hint: He lived in the same era as Karl Marx.

It’s all of Europe. Something happened. Does the MSM report it or is it a nothingburger?

No. Then they will have to report on our issues dealing with illegal immigration here in USA.

Notice how it’s not Hungary, but “illiberal Hungary”.

I guess if you refuse to be a pawn of the EU, you’re “illiberal“.

It seems that all of the European leaders whom Biden says keep coming up to him asking about President Trump are losing their seats.

This kind of bias is what stopped Le Pen last time. They painted her as Hitler 2.0 and it was relentless. She is at best a moderate. Macaroni called the snap as a hail mary to save himself. He will have a couple of months to crank up the smear machine again.
