Rochester, N.Y. – A former manager at Big Lots in Irondequoit finds himself unemployed after he followed a shoplifter into a parking lot, hoping to assist the police in apprehending the perpetrator. Instead of receiving recognition for his efforts, Pat Guider was fired from his position. The issue of shoplifting is rampant in New York State, with retailers experiencing a staggering loss of $4.4 billion to theft in just one year. Not only does this harm businesses, but it also impacts the state’s sales tax revenue, resulting in a loss of $176 million.
On May 10, a shoplifting incident occurred at the Big Lots store on Hudson Avenue. Guider, the store manager, witnessed the shoplifter assaulting his assistant manager before attempting to flee the premises. Guider, believing that he was doing the right thing, followed the suspect from a distance while alerting 911 to his whereabouts, with the hope that the police would be able to make an arrest.
(From X)Pat Guider was a manager at Big Lots and worked for them for over 20 years. A shoplifter assaulted an employee at his location last month, so he followed him & informed police about the attack. Big Lots responded by FIRING HIM.
Sounds like they want to go out of business. I say we help them out.
I was in a Big Lots on Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, and a young guy went in when I was paying for my items, grabbed some stuff (laundry soap), and walked right out before I even realized what was happening. The cashiers shrugged and just said it happens all the time.
Big Lots is on the verge of going under, and shoplifting is a big part of it.
Screw Big Lots. You are officially off my QVL (Qualified Vendors List) & QPL (Qualified Products List).
Yup, I’m fed up with these jerks.
Bough a couch there once. Faux leather. Cheap. I liked it. I’d do it again.
If they’re dumb enough to play chicken it’s on them.
So Big Lots is effectively an accomplice to the assault of one of its employees? Fires the witness of the assault who alerted the law enforcement?
A complete break down in our society is well under way. Retail stores are going to go the way of the buggy whip.
Leftist ideas and we can all see the results.
Make sure that location knows why many will stop shopping there.
It might be largely because the location is in NY and they have proved themselves rather corrupt, the GM/District MGR of Big Lots *might* have gotten a call from Hochul or the like and heard “or else” kind of thing.
Am not defending Big Lots one bit, however in other parts of the country the perp might be smacked to the pavement by locals and held on the ground until the cops arrived and have a totally different outcome.
It seems to be a policy with most retailers. My son manages a store that has been hit possibly by the same group 3 times in 2 weeks. They walk in basically say what they are doing and walk out. One was several thousand dollars worth of high end merchandise. Policy is basically to offer them a bag to carry it out. No intervention allowed or be fired. Afterwards you call police and spend serveral hours with loss prevention checking inventory. .
Finally a company I can boycott. There is on in a town a few hours away I shop at because they have an aisle of Eastern European food. I stock up when I visit family. Adios Big Lots.
This store will now be a target for shoplifters galore. They cooked there goose and only have themselves to blame.
NY State: Another big win for the criminal vs the law-abiding citizen.
The criminal is perfectly free, a family is runied.
“A complete breakdown in our society is well under way”

Cept if your last name is Trump.
Then, you have to convince a parole officer you are worthy of bail pending appeal...
