In 1826, Franz Schubert set some poems by the insane German poet Ernst Schulze. This particular poem is about a man riding his horse through the night on his way to his girlfriend and her cheating heart. Write English lyrics about a man on his Harley riding through the night on a two-lane blacktop, and you have a song for Bruce Springsteen. The piano accompaniment is pure rock and roll.
