Owners of about 463,000 Kia vehicles in the United States should park outside and away from structures until they get a recall repair for fire risks completed.

The Korean automaker said Friday it was recalling Telluride sport utility vehicles from the 2020 through 2024 model years over fire risks stemming from overheating front power seat motors.

...

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said "owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete."

...

Kia plans to begin notifying owners of the recall on July 30.

Wonder if the Hyundai Palisade is going to be recalled too?

Seems I remember reading they were basically the same car.

“The Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade are highly-rated SUVs with similar dimensions and specifications, and both have the same Korean parent company. The two SUVs even ride on the same platform.”

"...over fire risks stemming from overheating front power seat motors."

Really? Can't folks just turn on the A/C installed in their heated/cooled seats?

Things like seat motors tend to be shared across across every vehicle made by that company. And probably in affiliated companies like Hyundai.

yikes! Time will tell. Kinda like the faulty Takata airbags that were even used by many different auto manufacturers.

With very slightly different goals. The KIA for rugged and the Hyundai for luxury.

We have at least one neighbor with one of these firebugs,

They started parking it in the street instead of their carport, about a week ago.

How much would a retrofit cost to go to manual adjust seats, roll up/down windows, disable driver assist, lose the back-up camera I sorta like the back-up camera, manual adjust outside mirrors and manual raise/lower hatch?

Nothing bothers me more than to have someone get in the car and messing with buttons, vents etc.

What the hell is "driver assist"

I have 03 bare bones Silverado that suits me fine over 20yrs.

I have driver assist in my late-model car. I don't use it. It tends to rock back and forth between lane marker lines, and makes me feel like the ball in a Pong video game. Scary to think what if the "paddle" misses the ball. Used it once, and never again, keeping my hands in control of the steering wheel.

The US quality motto used to be “Do it tight the first time”.

Now it seems the world’s quality motto is “We will fix that problem the during the next production run”.

Manufacturers push defective products out the door routinely. Repair work and expense is the billed to warrantee department and not initial production. A certain percent of consumers will tolerate problem thus saving manufacturer some expense.

That’s the other possibility. The seats are from an outside component supplier and the motors are common to many companies.

or just adjust the seat, then pull the fuse.

How hard can that be.

Kias are very attractive vehicles, and I’ve considered them in the past. But I’ve decided I’m done with new. The funny part...even used (any brand) is WAY expensive.

I wonder if these owners should have been advised about a couple more things. How safe would they be AFTER the repair? If they catch fire in the meantime, should they just wait & let it burn out?
