Trump the Citizen: Trump’s legal travails are not unique. This sort of thing happens every day

The world continues to be riveted by President Trump’s legal cases. It is easy to sit back and watch it all, and think that this happens only in the gamesmanship of Washington politics.

Unfortunately, what the nation is witnessing happens every day, in some way, all across the country, deliberately, by mistake or mismanagement, from local county circuit courts, all the way up to state supreme courts and beyond, in ways big and small. (Federal circuit judge Richard Posner, nominated by President Reagan, said he eventually resigned over the way many litigants were treated in the court system.)

The legal machinery of our justice system, combined with detailed rules of procedure, generally keeps a lid on the corruption becoming absolute, or unable to be challenged and corrected. That’s a good thing. But the dangerous part, as in all human institutions, comes from the people in that system and how the legal machinery can be “hijacked” or taken far off course simply by ideology.

The “Bar and Bench,” or the lawyers and the judges, and the prosecutors, have a tight lock, or monopoly, on the courts that they rule over. Unknown to most of the public, however, is that the attorneys are officially “Officers of the Court,” which means they have a formal, regulatory “duty” to uphold the integrity of the law, and the court system, above any other role they may play. This includes a mandate by the Bar association to instill public confidence in our laws and legal system through their right behavior and professional conduct.

This all sounds good, and such standards do contribute to making our legal system often one of the best in the world. But it can still be easily corrupted and compromised, because politics and special interests can, without much trouble, penetrate the Judiciary

Wasn’t there a book written, possibly by Sydney Powell, of how corrupt and incompetent judges and the court system i?

Something … Black Robes blah blah

I know wrote a book about dirty the DOJ is. Has been for years. The two DOJ attorneys that railroaded Sen Stevens broke the law, weren’t fired, weren’t disbarred, and got back back after their suspension.

It IS unique when it happens to a former president and the opposition party’s leading candidate FOR president, and five months before the election to boot.

While I agree, you’re going to see a number of Trump is the only person to suffer the court. And frankly, this has been more a black issue vs a wealthy white man issue. I can’t remember the name of the person, but a black podcaster says he now supports Trump because he experienced what “his” people have experienced for years.

I’ve seen it firsthand during my time as a cop.

I was did some private security for a wealthy guy that was legitimately being railroaded by someone on some serious charges. I saw his lawyer. I was allowed to speak frankly about the attorney.

Explained that the lawyer he was currently using….the best lawyer in the area….was paid to make cases disappear. IE….one of your kids runs a stop sign, his drunk and has drugs on them…..that case can disappear with the purchase of a new pickup, a couple of ATVs for the beach patrol or buying some new gym equipment at the precinct.

My argument was filtered through some lawyers he knew. Turns out I made some sense.

Congress can impeach judges and remove the authority of bar associations.

Hillary was only fined $8000 for the exact same violation with the Steele Dossier.

See? It happens every day.
