Lawyers for former President Donald Trump on Tuesday asked a New York judge to lift the gag order imposed on him in the criminal hush money case, citing his opponent, President Joe Biden‘s 2024 election campaign gloating over his guilty verdict.
Trump has been under a gag order since April that bars him from making comments about the jury that presided over the weekslong trial as well as specific witnesses in the case, family members of prosecutors, and the daughter of presiding Judge Juan Merchan. His defense lawyers pointed to specific moments last week in which the Biden campaign used Trump’s guilty verdict as an excuse to discourage voters from choosing Trump as the next president.
“Now that the trial is concluded, the concerns articulated by the government and the Court
do not justify continued restrictions on the First Amendment rights of President Trump—who remains the leading candidate in the 2024 presidential election—and the American people,” attorney Todd Blanche wrote in a letter to Merchan.
Blanche argued the justification to lift the gag order is “even stronger” than their previously unsuccessful fight against it while the trial was ongoing, pointing to various public comments made by Biden and witnesses in the case.
Blanche cited “(1) President Biden’s May 28 campaign event outside the courthouse during the defense summation; (2) President Biden’s public comments regarding the jury’s verdict on May 31; (3) continued public attacks against President Trump by government witnesses Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels; and (4) the presidential debate scheduled for June 27, 2024,” according to the letter.
The defense attorney cited several precedents they say make their case for lifting the gag order, including Brown v. Harltage, quoting a section that states, “It...”

Gag orders are supposed to protect defendants, not witnesses.
Just another example of how this Soviet star chamber circus railroaded President Trump.

No. The judges power over Trump is now many times what it was before the verdict. He can set almost any condition for probation. House arrest. No public appearances. No use of social media. etc etc. Those are all within his nasty little power. If he imposes a 20 year sentence and then suspends it pending Trump’s compliance with ridiculous probation conditions (see above), he has accomplished everything the ugly people in the ruling class have wanted.
If he does any of those, Trump has the urgency behind and appeals, such as the Supreme Court. If he just gives him a slap, probation, and similar, no urgency. If the judge wants to prolong his conviction before it is overturned, giving the Democrats more mileage, he’ll choose the latter. I don’t think it will help much as it is already backfiring. The gag order is the problem, either ending it or saying enough, and ignoring it.

Right-O, Madame. The Brunson brothers skipped the middle courts with a rarely used legal avenue. It escapes me the title, but the SC accepted it right away and their case was to go to “committee”, before being set on the docket last I heard.
Several here thought the gag order was over. They were assuming logical, fair decisions in the system. Keep dreaming.
People were softened up to accept things (like bowing to Fauci under the Covid lockdowns). And meekly accepting the red light cameras and tickets. No revolt? Just grumbling at parties.
The preposterous secrecy of the JFK evidence as well as UFO files are examples. Who is being specially protected by that secrecy? Plus much of the JFK evidence was deliberately destroyed or “lost” in past years.
Mayne not Biden, but his handlers. IMHO, they are still panicked, deciding what to do over Trumps polls, fundraising, etc. post conviction.

What can MAGA do to symbolically support Donald Trump?
1. Have a small town change their name to “Trump.” One in each state.
2. Put up statues and murals to honor Trump and what he did for the nation. A little artistic skill, a bit of paint and we can get on the evening news. Yes, it will be defaced, but that too will be in the news.
3. Put “Trump” on every sidewalk and empty wall as graffiti.
With sayings like “Trump is MAGA” “Trump Loves America!”
4. Write songs about Trump, from ballads to rap and perform them. Get top singers to perform them.
5. Make posters showing Trump reading; “Free Trump” or “First Trump, then YOU!” or a pointing Trump with cation “I want You for the New America!” Make them and put them up at night all over! On to walls of FBI Buildings and Post Offices, Democrat HQs all over. Let them know the level of his support.
6. Make small newspapers with pro-Trump message. Print in secret. A Tabloid to expose corruption with humor. Call it the Trumpet. or Trumpet of Freedom. Denounce the Dems and poke fun at them—they can’t stand that. Suggestion: On cover of first issue a picture that got out of Hillary Clinton in a Thong Bikini she suppressed (She looks rather good for a woman of her age). Leave these tabloids in public places, like McDonalds, bus stops, waiting rooms, etc..
