Shocking footage has emerged showing a gigantic 'shantytown' that has sprung up in Oakland, as the California city's slide into crime-ravaged squalor continues.
Michael Oxford, the host of CaliBased, posted a video on May 31 of massive temporary houses built along service roads that open up into main roads in Hooverville, Oakland.
The footage showed trash strewn around scores of houses that were built of wood, tarp and other discarded materials.
Particularly shocking was just how large the 'shantytown' is, with a lengthy stretch of road in the Bay Area city covered with the makeshift dwellings.
Oxford could be heard calling the area a 'shantytown' that is 'absolutely mindboggling,' as he remarked how 'insane it is that [city officials] allow this.'

It is appropriate that a reporter named “Ishita Srivastava” covered this sh**hole of a story.
+++++++++++++
I worked at company that had a lot of contractors.
One of the was Ashit.
And, wait for it, another one was
Shithead.
It was tough to sit in meetings with them!
Biden filled.
I can’t even put in a sink in the garage without 15 bureaucrats forcing me to get permits and inspections. But build a house from discarded pallets and stolen materials to live for free. No problem. Just vote D.
It needs a different name than Hooverville. I understand where that came from but why not attach a current politician’s name to such a disaster? They should be proud to have something like that named after them. In fact, I would give the honor to the GOVERNOR of CA!! He doesn’t get enough recognition for his accomplishments!!!!!
“”Sheng Thao & Pamela Price representatives of the people.””
Harken back to my posts here in the past month of putting WOMEN in any power position!!!!!
And our decent into a third-world nation continues unabated, with California leading the way of course.
“Democrat-run city”
Yup.
“”The author misspelled “Newsomville”.””
There you go....appropriate enough!!!
The camera seems to be in an early 70’s Chrysler.
They should name it Bidenville.
Reminds me of “Tondo” in Manila. (Lots of videos on youtube should you wanna see what I’m talking about).
(In all fairness, it’s like the beginning of Tondo, or Dharvi in Mumbai. But give it time, it’ll be the same.)
My husband told me it looks just like São Paulo, Brazil did when he went there 20 something years ago. Shantytown was right by a river so it was filled with all sorts of waste.
40 years ago I sold Insurance to the teachers in the city of Oakland. I went into a lot of those schools and they had bars on the windows just like prisons at that time. I have a friend who taught first grade and had a Hispanic student bring a gun to school to protect himself from black bullies.
Oakland has not been a nice place to live in a very long time.
Wasn’t long ago the old media would shout from the rooftops about how bad the homeless situation was.
Of course that was only when a Republican was president
“”They should name it Bidenville.””
Barbara Lee represents that area in the US House. I think she lost out running for Diane Feinstein’s senate seat. Maybe she’d accept the consolation prize - LEEVILLE!
These are Bidenville’s, which, are the updated versions of Hooverville’s, during the great depression.
As I recall the depredators were under federal protection. Still, the area was eventually pacified by concerned citizens. What happened once could happen again.
I like “Bidenburg” for the alliteration.
Democrats can’t improve anything you just hope for second worst. Baltimore is looking better now.
Housing is expensive. Permitting takes forever and is also expensive. If they allow open drug use they might as well allow open flaunting of housing codes and zoning.
Oakland works for Maxine Waters.
She wouldn’t change a thing.
