12 States Are Banning the Sale of Gas-Powered Cars

Imagine a world where gas stations are replaced by charging stations. Does that sound weird or cool? Well, that’s the future 12 U.S. states are hurtling towards by phasing out the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles.

California pioneered this ambitious plan to fight air pollution by encouraging residents to buy electric cars. A domino effect has begun following California’s lead, with 11 states lining up to follow suit.

In August 2022, California decided to ban the sales of gas-powered cars by 2035. It’s a big step in fighting climate change since ICEs constitute a significant cause of air pollution. However, the rule doesn’t apply to used cars, which can still be sold and bought.

The Advanced Clean Cars II regulation will kick in 2026 with a small percentage of new cars required to be electric and then increase each year until only zero-emission vehicles are sold in 2035. Whether this initiative will work hinges on the state’s ability to continue ramping up sales of Zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).

It’s 12 states trying to impose their will to ‘save the earth’ on the other 38 by fiat and by market strength.

Ironically, it’s a check that the earth can’t cash.

The problem is that California is already having a problem with the lack of TAX they are collecting on EVs.
They have sold so many EVs in CA that the amount of road tax is coming up way short of what they counted on.

So, now they are talking about adding a mileage tax in the state based on how much you drive. Which takes away the incentive of buying an EV. Even though EVs do more damage to the highway than a similar sized ICE automobile. This is because the extra 1000 pounds in the weight of an EV. They higher the percentage of EVs, the more damage to the highway system.

Did you see a list of states anywhere? I did not at the site. Nor what happens when they cannot meet their percentage goals...

This would end ICE cars. The car manufacturers will not make cars that cannot be sold in 12 states especially when they include some of the biggest markets. They will only make cars they can sell in every state. To seal the fate these states have already said they will not register cars bought out of state. So rat states will be able to bully the entire country.
Trump is the only thing that can stop this.

Then insurance companies will stop insuring ICE cars, and Gas Stations will feel the squeeze.

What states? The excerpt doesn’t provide that info, and a quick glance at the MSN article is likewise devoid of the relevant information.

If feel like it’s time to buy some older car/truck that’s known to be easy to work on and buy a stock of likely parts needed for the next 20-25 years.

Then insurance companies will stop insuring ICE cars

I thought the insurance problem was with EVs—any accident that might affect the battery results in totaling the car.

The car dealers in Yuma, AZ, Reno and other on the state borders will have huge sales.
Apparently you will still be able to buy/sell used cars in CA. So why not buy car in Yuma, drove it to San Diego and sell as slightly used there?
