Austin, Texas — Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas narrowly won his primary Tuesday against a gun-rights activist who pushed the border congressman into a bruising runoff that threatened to unseat a U.S. House incumbent.
Another prominent Texas Republican, state House Speaker Dade Phelan, also edged out a challenger from the right who was backed by former President Donald Trump.
Both won by razor-thin margins, reflecting the anger of hard-line conservatives and a wave of party turbulence in America's biggest red state over votes that bucked party lines and the impeachment of state Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Gonzales defeated Brandon Herrera, a gun enthusiast who calls himself "The AK Guy" on social media and attacked him over positions that angered the GOP's hard right in Texas. Supporters of Gonzales had warned that a loss in Tuesday's election could open the door for Democrats to flip the district in November.

Ping to Texas Booster.
Not even TX can get rid of the establishment scum.
Brandon Herrera would have been great in that seat.
I live in a town in Central Texas that was +14 for Trump in 2016. Now, we can't get more than 12% of the eligible voters out for our local elections, which are in months other than November. Because of that, the lefties who vote early tend to skew our elections.
This is the concern about Trump’s poll numbers - he is doing very well with people who do not vote regularly or consistently. The problem is these people often just do not bother to show up.
This guy is counting on (racist democrat) votes from the local Spanish-speaking residents (not all of them US citizens! ) who will vote “his Spanish-sounding name” .
I’d be apt to do a recount and thoroughly examine all votes in these two districts.
The usual pattern. Cheat just enough to win but not too much and make it obvious.
Emm. These are open primaries. Texas is so complacent
Look at Paxton’s response. Short and sweet
Thanks for that post.
Maverick County = Election Fraud.

They could only fudge a few hundred votes.
Clear example of why principles, and principled candidates, need to matter.
Tony is a gun grabber and apparently likes to vote for whatever AOC votes for...
Brandon is a gun nut that occasionally uses salty language, but has a firm grasp of conservative principles.
So who is it that the republicans in that District vote for? Nearly evenly split for the RINO over the real conservative.
We are our own worst enemy.
Yes he would have.
Brandon lost by around 400... It only NEEDED to be a “few hundred votes”...
Tony Gonzales (RINO, Mexico).
The wife and I both voted for Herrera...

Blessings, and stay cool!
Maybe they did and the election was rigged.
We’ll never know without an audit.
There’s not a state in the union that has secured its elections.
Not one.
Red states, my backside.
