I’ve come to the conclusion that they KNOW this case is dead as soon as it hits the appeals court, so all they are trying for now is a get a conviction any way possible in the hope that it will do at least a little political damage to Trump and make it harder for him to campaign and travel in the meantime as technically he will be “convicted felon awaiting sentencing” until the appeals court throws it out.

...After the federal election violation, Merchan says that the second crime is falsifying other documents. This creates a redundancy with the NY election violation on the falsifying documents. It allows the government to allege the falsification of documents as a felony and then allows such falsification to be also the unlawful means for certain documents. The third is the violation of tax laws.
The point of any of these Kafka-on-meth trials is not to get a conviction that will survive appeal, it’s simply to get the conviction. This is merely point #195 in this trial that makes it an instant dismissal on the inevitable appeal, but that doesn’t matter.
But why, you may ask? Everything the Dummies have done to Trump has backfired spectactularly. As Rush always pointed out, they didn’t make Trump so they can’t break Trump. So what to do?
None of this is being done in a Dem attempt to take out Trump. It’s being done as a setup to attack EVERY establishment Repubican in a strategery to have THEM take out Trump. They have the media attack machine poised; the biggest crook/creep in the nation will give a presidenty-non-partisan national address about how the other party will SIDS democracy in the crib by running a >gasp< CONVICTED FELON, and anyone who has an (R) after their name is just as guilty.
Don’t be surprised at a 3 or 4-way election after the Repubicans self-immolate. And lots of monkey business at the election if it gets that far (which is why Biden is trying to ban live betting on the 2024 Election - the single biggest tell in 2020 that it was not on the up-and-up).

I could get my head around being found guilty on one of three possible crimes.
BUT the jury not agreeing on which one? No.
That would mean 2/3 of the jurors find him innocent on each of the crimes.
It also means the 12 jurors can each decide that the false entry was to hide pretty much any possible crime.
The law can be pretty obscure, but I do not think this is Constitutional.

While CERTAIN to be overturned on appeal, Merchan is determined to get a conviction.
To convict, jurors must unanimously decide that Donald Trump falsified business records with the “intent” to cover up the hush money payout to Michael Cohen, and that the hush money was part of an illegal “conspiracy” to elect Trump in 2016 by what’s called “unlawful means,” the judge said.
But panelists can take a choose-your-own-adventure path to deciding what those “unlawful means” are.
Per the judge, jurors can consider whether the hush money payouts to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal breached campaign finance laws, were tax fraud, or whether business records were themselves falsified during that process — for example, whether Cohen fudged records to create his shell companies that he used for the payoffs.
But they don’t have to agree on what those “unlawful means” are.

There is a possibility — remote, given that it’s New York, but still a possibility — of an honest and intelligent juror, which would produce a hung jury.
If I had to bet, I’d bet on a conviction. Trump will eventually win on appeal, but the dems will get their headline.
My question has to do with the exact proceedings after the judge announces the (likely) guilty verdict. Can Trump appeal prior to sentencing, or can the judge move immediately to sentencing? If Trump appeals at that stage, can the judge deem him a flight risk and order him held, or send him to prison pending the appeal?
The democrat base and democrat media desperately want Trump to be imprisoned. And if they can have him imprisoned through the election, the lunatics will not flinch from that. At this point, there is no reason to expect the slightest trace of integrity from this corrupt judge.
Judge Merchan told Trump and the lawyers, “You cannot leave the building. We need you to be able to get here quickly if we do receive a note.”

How do you do this, if when questioning the jury, you ask how they rule on each count? 4/12 is not a conviction in any court of law.
