...The law will require nongovernmental groups and media organizations that receive at least 20 percent of their funding from abroad to register as organizations “pursuing the interests of a foreign power.” The country’s justice ministry will be given broad powers to monitor compliance. Violations could result in fines equivalent to more than $9,000.

Bad news for Russia - now their CLANDESTINE ACTIVITIES to undermine the government of Georgia will have to be DISCLOSED. Going to make it very difficult for Russia to keep undermining Georgia.

Cumulatively from all sources? Should have been 10%.

What about bundlers? Say Soros take money from overseas, mixes it with his.

“Cumulatively from all sources? Should have been 10%.”

Looks cumulative, and if so, then any organization not having to report will be receiving less than 20% of their money from Russian sources...meaning at least 80% Georgian. At 80%, one can safely assume that they’re only answering to Georgians, not Russians.

What’s absurd is that the usual suspects in the West are harping about this law being a result of Russian influence...even though it’s basically a variant of the FARA law that America has regarding foreign agents.

If they’re so hellbent on demonizing this law as being ‘anti-democracy’, I would consider it prima facie evidence that every single NGO in Georgia is nothing more than a vector for foreigners to meddle with the Georgian government.

Does Russia use NGO proxies like the sneaky West or do they just work directly above board with Georgia?

“What’s absurd is that the usual suspects in the West are harping about this law...”

That’s only because they are controlled by RUSSIA! Now, with this law, this control by Russia, at least as it exists in Georgia, will have to disclosed.

Bottom line, Russia is HOSED - but you have to give Russia credit, as they are somehow controlling the EU and US to have us fight the law, rather than Russia having to openly fight it themselves. Russia seems to be EVERYWHERE!

Oh please, the West stands for Transparency and Democracy, so, of course, they support this law as it advances both causes. It is the Russians that are hosed, since their sneaky, undercover, activities will have to be disclosed.

But those CLEVER RUSSIANS, they have some kind of mind control over Western Leaders to get them (the Western Leaders) to oppose this law...gotta hand it to the Russians for that accomplishment.

Russia seems to be EVERYWHERE!

I dropped a pen under my computer desk, and bent over to retrieve it.

There were THREE Russians under my desk.

They were controlling what I was posting on the Internet, somehow.

Wonderful place to visit. I did business with a Tblisi based company. Good food, good friendly people, and wine. Oh my do they like their wine. I stood out like a sore thumb being a foot taller than the average Georgian. I left just a few weeks before Putin invaded. Very sad to see as a friend was killed during the BS invasion. I have no love for Ukraine but I sure hope Ukraine destroys and humiliates Russia.

Thanks, this is fun, but it does show just how ABSURD this crap is. I cannot even come up with an analogy to point out just how bad this is.

The law, inspired by the Russian legislation and dubbed the "Russian law," stipulates that organizations receiving at least 20 percent of their financing from abroad would need to register and report, placing them in a special register of foreign influence agents.

My guess would be that these laws are aimed at those acting on behalf of the U.S., and being protested by those making money buying and selling foreign influence.

Of course the same goes for the US so they don’t pull the same stunt as they did in Ukraine or a while back in Kazakhstan but fortunately that one did not succeed.

“My guess would be that these laws are aimed at those acting on behalf of the U.S., and being protested by those making money buying and selling foreign influence.”

Except the US is a pure as the wind-driven snow, so we would NEVER do those kind of things - it’s only the Russians that act on the sly. Snicker, snicker-snicker, giggle, ROFLOL!!!

Anyway, yep, the law will force disclosure of the Western crap going on there, be it by the US, EU, Soros, or Bill Gates. So the people in Georgia will learn things like the (hypothetical) “Georgia Freedom and Independence Party” actually gets 90% of its funding from CIA Front groups.

And that scares the crap out of the Westerners trying to seize control of Georgia.

This was directed at NATO. The president of Georgia is a French born national. You obviously don’t have a clue do you.

“This was directed at NATO.”

What’s the problem - if NATO is operating in Georgia, why should they oppose disclosing it?
