Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tanks reached the center of the town of Rafah on Tuesday. according to multiple media outlets, indicating that Israel intended to fight outwards toward the periphery rather than closing in from the outside.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
Israeli tanks advanced farther into Rafah on Tuesday, according to witnesses, as the Israeli military said it was expanding operations in the southern Gaza city amid growing international condemnation.
The tanks passed near the Al-Awda mosque, a central Rafah landmark, Palestinians in the city told The Wall Street Journal. The Israeli military didn’t comment on the specifics of its push into Rafah, but Israel’s Army Radio said the military had added a brigade to the five operating in the city and troops were engaging in close-quarters combat with Hamas.

Destroy the habitat that allows them to exist. Blow the tunnels, flatten the mosques, any other buildings large enough to harbor the evil ones. Time the world press realized, this is not a soccer match, this is war.

Brilliant tactic. Divide radially and conquer!

One simple fact: Hamas must be totally destroyed, how that is accomplished, raises concern with many- not me.

Interesting concept. Control the center and a supply route into the center. Attack outwards. They face a serious problem communicating and supporting each other. And eventually they are pushed out off the edge of town where the air assets will slaughter them.
Creative. And this had to come from their experiences there up to this point.

“Israel also (controversially) uses armored bulldozers in its attacks on terrorists in urban centers, carving out corridors for troops and vehicles to avoid booby-trapped pathways.”
What is the controversy? Using armor on the bulldozers?

Makes sense to me- earlier on, Hamas fighters generally had some sort of option to flee to the south. So the Israelis tried to cut the North-South communication, surround as large an enclave as they could, then reduce it from outside in.
But in the case of Rafah, there is no fleeing to the sought for Hamas: Israel controls the territory between Rafah and Egypt. In fact, Israel controls about 270° around Rafah, with the open side being no real escape, because it stops at the ocean. So instead of fighting outside-in to trap Hamas fighters, they're already trapped. And by simple geometry many of their lines of communication must cross the center of the town. So start there, cut out the center of the tunnel system, and drive them to the ends, where they're trapped, or above ground, where they're hemmed in by ground forces and will be mowed down.
It's almost poetic really, that the west side of Rafah is open- the Israelis can end up finishing this thing by literally driving Hamas into the sea...

An extremely valuable secondary effect is to give the finger to the international community/media/ and HusseinOsama/Bidementia hamass preserving administration.

It works best if the enemy doesn't have the means to destroy the central force, and if you control most of the border of the fought over territory.

Sounds very promising. Please, Bibi, finish eliminating the enemy — they’re savages and will just attack again if you quit or withdraw
