Russian forces have advanced along the front line in Ukraine, battlefield maps published by a U.S. think tank show, as Ukraine warns that Moscow is preparing for a major offensive in the east.
Maps released by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a U.S.-based think tank, on Sunday, show that Russian forces have made progress in Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which together comprise the Donbas.
The Kremlin has been pushing for the total capture of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since Russia's initial invasion of eastern Ukraine in 2014.
Newsweek has contacted the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.
In the Luhansk region, Russian forces advanced northwest of the city of Svatove, and geolocated footage published on Sunday indicates that they recently advanced into the rural settlement of Ivanivka, northwest of Svatove, the ISW said.
While the Russian Ministry of Defense has claimed that Russian forces seized Ivanivka, the ISW said it hasn't observed confirmation of this.
Near the city of Bakhmut in Ukraine's Donetsk region, the ISW observed that Russian forces had recently made small advances southwest of the captured fortress city of Avdiivka amid continued fighting in the area.

ISW is a neocon propaganda outfit. Whatever they are saying, it is worse.
Much of the line of contact has been quiet for months, while the fighting goes on in the Donbas. The Russian incursion to the north seems to be intended to draw scarce defensive resources away from there, enabling the Russian advance to accelerate.
Russia has already made advances in the East, crossing the border in multiple locations around Kharkiev, how much advance is in doubt.
Supposedly they are amassing forces for another cross-border advance in the Sumi District which is further north.
I wonder if Kharkiev and or Odessa are in the plans if the Russians launch an even bigger offensive this summer.
It’s a Trap!

ISW maps show Russian “advances” to be mere pinpricks. Not your “whole front line” at all.

Just last fall they were claiming that Russia had “ no offensive capability”
Pretty good for an army without ammunition, fighting with shovels, and needing to salvage washing machines for computer parts. /s. The United States has become a walking meme.

Not to worry, those magical F-16’s we’re sending will turn the tide. Meanwhile zelensky and his cronies are packing up our money and securing it in other countries.
You understand that the Russian re-invasion near Kharkiv has moved about 6 to 7 miles from the border, at the cost of thousands of Russian soldier's lives.
That's less distance than the Ukrainian forces advanced in their counter offensive last summer which you probably consider a failure.
Is that why Putin just proposed a cease-fire?
Steiner’s counterattack will turn the tide.
