Study: The Amount of Copper Needed for EVs Is ‘Impossible for Mining Companies to Produce’
Breitbart ^ | 05/27/2024 | Lucas Nolan

Posted on 05/27/2024 10:17:26 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

A recent study from the University of Michigan has shed light on a critical challenge facing the global transition to electric vehicles: the inability of copper mining to keep pace with the growing demand.

Engineering & Technology reports that copper, a crucial component in electricity generation, distribution, and storage, is fundamental to the successful implementation of policies aimed at promoting the adoption of EVs. However, a recent study from the University of Michigan, titled “Copper mining and vehicle electrification,” has revealed that the current rate of copper production is insufficient to meet the projected demand for the metal in the coming years.

Time to re-open the mines and fire the smelters back up in Michigan’s Keewenaw Penninsula.

Wouldn’t that be something.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Nice to have it backed up by someone who has actually done the study. I’ve been operating on gut instinct, but my gut on this stuff is pretty good.

Only one thing to do - invest in copper! It’s the new gold…

Of course they knew all along EVs are not viable.

The point was always to take away personal transportation from the masses.

Toyota is betting on hybrids. Toyota says they can produce 37 hybrids using the resources for a single EV.

Mine asteroids!

I have a better idea.

Burn distilled petroleum hydrocarbons in an internal combustion piston engine.

Elon can have it all. All the other mfg’s will die for lack of demand for the niche product, which only Tesla will supply when all is said and done.

There’s a place for EV’s, its just quite small, for a select few, in some parts of the country.

I hope the rest of them go to hell, and fire their CEOs

From Dr. Michaux’ presentation from nearly 2 years ago.

The quantity of metal required to make just one generation of renewable tech units to replace fossil fuels, is much larger than first thought.

Aluminum conducts electricity too.

It’s just not as efficient.

It has never been about electrifying the vehicle, it is about restricting movement, sustenance, and ultimately, denying freedom to the great unwashed.

I would rather have a hybrid than an EV.

Elon can have it all.

This article fails to take in account how efficient Tesla vehicles are in comparison to other makers. Tesla has moved to 48V wiring architecture and ethernet wiring in their latest models. This has greatly reduced the amount of wiring required, and minimized the use of copper. They have also improved the motors with new technology, requiring less copper, if any is used at all (2 types of motors in some models). Also more efficient charging stations, minimizing the amount of wiring in charge cables (to the point that other brands are switching to the standard that Tesla created).

EVs are not taking over, and will never do so, but Tesla is ahead of the pack. Tesla is on the right track.

But there are good reasons many places outlaw aluminum wiring in houses due to cold flow problems causing fires.
