Not their fathers' and/or their mothers' problem, rather that of the missions supra-church project and the sponsoring assembly that organized the visit to Haiti, as well as the victims themselves who were well able to make their own risk management decisions.
At least the victims had not yet been eaten.

At least the victims had not yet been eaten. How even do they bring the bodies home for a decent burial?

“supra-church project and the sponsoring assembly that organized the visit to Haiti”
That’s not how the couple came to be in Haiti. They weren’t there as participants in a “church project” mini-vacay little mission trip. That was their permanent home.
One of my cousins has been on a foreign mission field since 1973, and I see him for a few days about every four years when they are on furlough in the US for medical checkups, etc. His kids and grandkids live overseas.
Same for many of my friends who were in seminary with me in the ‘60s.
