Canadians born abroad who have children overseas will be able to pass along their citizenship under legislation introduced in the House of Commons on Thursday.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller tabled the legislation, which aims to close loopholes that have created so called “lost Canadians” — people with ties to the country who are unable to pass along their citizenship to their children.
Under changes brought in by Stephen Harper’s Conservative government in 2009, Canadians born abroad could only pass along citizenship to children they had in Canada. The change had followed Ottawa evacuating people from Lebanon during its 2006 war with Israel, only to find that some people demanding Ottawa’s help only had connections to Canada through their parents.
Miller said there need to be rules limiting citizenship, but they must be reasonable.
“There’s no doubt that Canadian citizenship is highly valued and recognized around the world. We want citizenship to be fair, accessible, with clear and transparent rules,” he said.

will canadians abroad admit that they are indeed canadians?
My wife does. She remembers a different Canada. Now, she couldn’t imagine going back. The Ontarians and BCers buy into Trudeau’s crap, and enough of the rest are mild by natural temperament that they won’t be able to get back what they lost.
There is a very attractive and tempting architectural beauty with some of the newer chalets in the ski areas.
Canada’s treatment of her subjects during Covid combined with criminal penalties for unapproved religious speech plus hate crime laws that are triggered by official oppressed claiming ill treatment overwhelingly trumps any natural beauty.
Sadly, you are correct, including any man-made beauty. It seems like just a few decades ago I was enjoying the Vancouver, Victoria area and offshore. The female accent in that area was most captivating. Fond memories.
My wife worked as a small resort maid on Vancouver Island in 1996. She found it to be incredibly beautiful.
Canada seems to be an advanced testing ground for Davos/WEF globalists.
