Doug Burgum was bracing for disaster at the top of the ticket. “The Clintons might be the luckiest family in the world because Bill doesn’t win in 1992 without Ross Perot,” he told a North Dakota radio show eight years ago, “and Hillary doesn’t win in 2016 without Donald Trump.”
But Clinton did not fall to Trump that year, and the soundbite from the future governor of North Dakota, a bleak sentiment widespread among Republicans at the time, went largely unnoticed. Until now. Perhaps it won’t mean much. Although Trump is a man who knows how to nurture a grudge, he also possesses a mitigating trait – a “What have you done for me lately?” sensibility that may spare Burgum. Because lately, he has been a reliable soldier for Team Trump.
Burgum has recently catapulted from relative obscurity to the top of Trump’s list of possible running mates. Tall with wavy salt-and-pepper hair, the governor looks a bit like a modern George Washington. Some close to the former president describe him as “straight out of central casting” for a potential vice president. The entrepreneur who sold his software company to Microsoft before entering politics is rich, good looking, and loyal – qualities Trump values above all else.

Considering all the nasty things Trump has said about other politicians my first inclination is to say SO WHAT? 🤷
Didya ever read the things George Bush said about Ronald Reagan, before signing on as his Vice President?
“ and Hillary doesn’t win in 2016 without Donald Trump.”
That’s it? Fifteen paragraphs on this comment?
“ Didya ever read the things George Bush said about Ronald Reagan, before signing on as his Vice President?”
Bush never said anything nice about Reagan. Nor did any of the Bushies.
Yes, and the entire Bush family are just sparkling little angels and saviors of our great nation. /s/
My internal gut says do not trust Burgum. He could be just a smarter version of Pence. There’s just too much hype about this buy being VP, somewhere, some place there are people pushing this idea.
If Burgum is in deed the best thing since sliced bread, then once Trump is back in office, give Burgum a job cleaning up the border and expelling all the illegals. This would prove him worthy of the White House later on. He’d have the popularity Ike did after WWII.
Good idea
Lots of Trump haters vied for positions in his administration, just so they could undermine his authority.
He needs an aggressive attorney general who can make heads roll on day one - someone who won’t be timid. Maybe Rudy’s kid.
“Although Trump is a man who knows how to nurture a grudge, “
Not really, this is a myth. He needs to be a little more vindictive in my view. He let HRC off the hook and the rats saw it as weakness so they went full on offense.
Burgum has also continually waged war against conservative elements (few though they are) of the Republican-dominated — actually RINO-dominated — North Dakota state legislature.
Burgum is RINO trash and nobody with any sense would want him as Vice President. He’d be no different than Judas Pence and, given Trump’s age and the fact that the VP is the #1 contender to be the next GOP presidential nominee, this position is too important to risk yet another disastrous personnel decision on.
You are correct. We have moronic cultists on this website that will make any and all excuses for the stable genius.
I was just thinking of Byron Donalds, but like DeSantis, Donalds is a resident of Florida and electors can’t vote for vice presidential and presidential candidates from the same state.
But if NY jurors make Trump a NY resident again, DeSantis and Donalds become VP possibilities.
Trump might become a Texan.
I went to his website - 100% rattling the tin can - same as Scott and Warren - same result as Warren and Scott - some money, no nomination.
Doug won 161 votes in the Georgia primary.
And 158 of those who voted for Doug thought they were voting for this guy
This guy is in love with himself. The greasy, swept back, overly long hair. He thinks he’s handsome. Yuck. What made him think he should run for president? A totally obscure, non-entity of a politician thought the voters would take to him?
The fact that he is so obviously running for V.P. should immediately disqualify him. Trump can do much better than this would-be matinee idol with a massive ego.
>>”We have moronic cultists on this website that will make any and all excuses for the stable genius.”
No, but we understand that hindsight is 20/20 and we also understand that at the time of some of his decisions, he didn’t always have the option of his first choice, nor did he have the luxury of going it alone. He had a strong RINO contingent in Congress that he had to corral in order to get some of his most important accomplishments passed. Simply ignoring them was not an option. Being an armchair quarterback is easy. Governing as a MAGA president in the swamp is hard.
>>The fact that he is so obviously running for V.P. should immediately disqualify him.
That fact that he is making frequent public appearances and appears to be auditioning for V.P. is because Trump has clearly reached out to him and indicated that he’s on the short list. You don’t just show up to speak at a Trump rally without being invited.
I am quite sure that Trump invited him to the events, to ride on the Trump jet.
