How does the device know that you are 10 miles over the speed limit?

Does the device function if you’re going 75 miles an hour based on the assumption that the speed limit is going to be 65?

But suppose you’re going 40 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour Zone. How does this device know what sort of Road you’re driving on, ? Theoretically it should alert you if you’re going 40 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour Zone but how does it know that you’re on a low speed Road, or on a freeway, or in a residential area?

Waze and Apple Maps seem to ‘know’ the speed limit is where you are. Waze will show the speed limit in red if you are over.

My 2020 Toyota Corolla already has this feature. The car imaging system recognizes and reads speed limit signs. It turns the border of a “speed sign icon” from white to red if you exceed the limit. Fortunately, it can be turned off...

Google maps paired with a GPS knows the posted speed on the current travel path. It would take very little to have an app on the phone to report speeding back to your insurance carrier.
