Besides the unknown response Russia will take here, isn’t there also some concern here for what creating this precedent does for all future business and investments? Unintended consequences of this action?

Not really - the aggressor state (Muscowy) has had its assets frozen. Not unprecedented.

This froze Muscowy’s central bank assets kept in its largest trading partner (the EU). Not private companies - under Putin Muscowy is a fascist state controlling any “private” enterprises

Its been done before.

This is a risk that bad actors assume when they deal in a system they dont control but intend to undermine. Also known as wanting ones cake and eating it too, or being hoist by ones own petard.
