A class disparity has emerged within the Russian military, contrasting the fates of ordinary soldiers and the privileged elite. This divide has ignited widespread anger and criticism, even among top-level troops who feel betrayed by their leadership during the ongoing battle over Ukraine.

” ...In Britain, one could at one time buy officer commissions in the military. You could also buy a seat in Parliament. “
I now believe that purchased commissions and Rotten Boroughs actually provided superior leadership to the current degenerate military and political elites.

Yes, many but not all.
I served with one who didn’t keep up with his classwork and ended up in RVN.
His business card said:
J.Smith
San Francisco, Oahu
Company name
A good guy, did his year, and went home.
His father was a real estate tycoon and they had houses in both cities.

THAT is different than the elite sons of DC power brokers. /sarcasm/
Of course in DC, it would be the grandsons and great grandsons, they are so flippin’ old.

I had 8 cousins and 1 brother of military age in the 1960’s. My brother joined, one of my cousins joined because he wanted to protect his brothers, 7 were drafted. All working class families paid some price.

We have a few Uke Spooks here who have escape routes all mapped out and their children long out of the Ukraine and holding passports from other nations. Biden and the neocons have sent them enough greenbacks to buy just about anything.

My only brother was a Vietnam Vet. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964. He was 20 at the time. After basic he went briefly to Alaska. The 25th Infantry Division was re-activated, and he was sent to Hawaii for advanced jungle training, then on to Cu Chi, Vietnam, and was there from April 1966 to April 1967. When he came home from Vietnam, he was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. He was told he would be training new recruits that would be heading to Vietnam. That never happened, and he sat for a whole year in Colorado with no assignment whatsoever before being discharged in 1968. He died of a massive heart attack at the young age of 51 in 1995. Thankfully both our parents had already passed, or it would have killed them.
Two of the guys in my 1965 graduating class died in Vietnam. The first enlisted in the Marines and died in May 1967. He had less than a year in service. He sat behind me in homeroom for at least 3 years. The second, whose sister was on the cheer squad with me enlisted in the U.S. Army and died in February 1968. He had a year's service at the time.
