McDonald’s is working to introduce a value meal in U.S. stores to help offset an increasingly challenging environment for consumers, two people familiar with the matter told CNBC.
The people said the $5 meal could include four items: a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink. The value meal was first reported by Bloomberg News.
The potential new offering comes at a time when low-income consumers are beginning to pull back on spending, particularly at fast-food brands. Mentions of low-income consumers on company earnings calls are at their highest levels in nearly two years, according to data from Bank of America. Executives from McDonald’s to Wendy’s to Dave and Buster’s have all noted the restraint in spending.

Yeah, it’s always as some sort of captive location and they price things individually, too stupid to order a combo meal.
As for the example you gave a Big Mac by itself is $5.99 and $8.99 in a meal here in eastern WA State. My friend who formerly was store manager at Lake Elsinore and Menifee McDs says the meal couldn’t possibly be priced at $6.50 there.

Not long ago I bought a Double Cheeseburger and Fries which was pretty cheap.
Wasn’t that in a commercial
Never saw $.50 breakfast item on their deals. It’s always been $2.00’ breakfast item. First they offered the steak egg and cheese either mcMuffin, McGriddle, bisquit but not Bagel (seems they stopped carrying any bagels now at least the app. Then a week goes by and they eliminate the steak egg and cheese on mcmuffin or biscuit, leaving only a mcGriddle steak egg and cheese. A week later even that was taken off the $2.00 breakfast item
I remember when the Wendy’s JR burgers were $.99 and that wasn’t that long ago
I did not know that. Thank you for telling me. Ancheta flour, never heard of it.
I have decided the variations offered are significantly different by region and affected by whether your local franchises are able to opt out.
When the breakfast bagel sandwiches first came out years ago, the app in my area (MI) offered a deal special $1 breakfast sandwich deal INCLUDING all the bagel ones.
I think I ate 30 steak egg carmelized grilled onionsand cheese bagels in 2 months until the daily deal ended. This was a like $4.75 sandwich back then. I was full until supper.
