Wrong. Nowhere in the US Constitution did the states delegate to the federal government the power to prevent secession. Under the 9th and 10th amendments any power not given to the federal government is reserved by the states and it cannot be argued that a right does not exist unless it was specifically named in the constitution. At the time the US constitution was ratified every state understood itself to have the right of unilateral secession.
