A Senate Armed Services hearing turned heated this week when Sen. Angus King, chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee, laid into John Hill, deputy assistant defense secretary for space and missile defense, about why the Biden administration’s 2025 missile defense budget request falls far short on funding to maintain readiness against the growing threat of hypersonic missiles from adversaries — namely Russia.
“We have no defense for hypersonic missiles, yes or no? Mr. Hill? Any defense on hypersonic missile?” Mr. King asked during one exchange. If Russia launches a hypersonic missile traveling 6,000 mph and “you are the commander of an aircraft carrier in the Greenland gap … what do you do?” he asked.
Mr. Hill responded: “We have some systems in the terminal stage, but we need more. You are correct … our hypersonic defenses are inadequate. SM-67 is in the Navy’s terminal range Patriot … No argument, we need to focus on hypersonic defenses.”

Just another excuse to shovel more money to the corrupt arms industry at a time when we are essentially bankrupt. I dare say that the financial hole we’ve allowed ourselves to dig is way more of a threat to our national security than worrying about missile interceptors.
A huge example of what a CF this administration is!!
No an unfortunate reality!! We are screwed here!
(If Russia launches a hypersonic missile traveling 6,000 mph and “you are the commander of an aircraft carrier in the Greenland gap … what do you do?” he asked.)
Then it’s World War III
😨😱😰
And how long until North Korea has these weapons? Iran? Venezuela? Brazil?
More likely is that we try to repulse a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and our carrier groups are attacked from both directions by hypersonics, ballistic missiles and drones in a combined Chinese and Russian attack.
China and Russia have talked about basing some in Venezuela and Cuba.
Does anyone have “adequate” defenses?
It is already been reported that Iran has been supplied with Gen1 Turbojet technology by Russia.
They can deploy them on submarines, surface ships, air and ground launchers. They also have a hypersonic capability they can deploy both nuke/HE on their submarine and land based ICBMs.

I bet the Russians do or have somethings under development.
North Korea has them. They’ve tested them successfully and have begun mass production.
Meanwhile, we’re wasting money on the inbred NeoCons’ Ukraine project.
Another way is to base an assortment of missiles on cargo vessels.
Maybe the government can just stop antagonizing Russia?
Don’t worry about that..
Lloyd Austin will have the greatest collection of transgenders take care of everything
I refuse to believe a hypersonic missile traveling 6,000 mph can be guided and is not purely ballistic in nature.
You only get one surprise sneak attack per war.
The cruise missile capability is proven.
