Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reflected on the end of his Speakership on Thursday while taking a dig at Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), saying he “couldn’t live” with himself if he cut a deal with Democrats to keep his job.
McCarthy was ousted from the Speakership in October after eight Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), backed a motion to vacate, alongside all Democrats. McCarthy said he refused to work with Democrats to save his job at the time, claiming their price was too high.

Scott Applewhite) Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reflected on the end of his Speakership on Thursday while taking a dig at Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), saying he “couldn’t live” with himself if he cut a deal with Democrats to keep his job.
McCarthy was ousted from the Speakership in October after eight Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), backed a motion to vacate, alongside all Democrats. McCarthy said he refused to work with Democrats to save his job at the time, claiming their price was too high.
“I couldn’t live with myself if I’d done a deal with Democrats,” he said in an appearance on Político’s “Power Play” podcast. “If you can’t sustain being speaker by your own majority, should you sustain it? No.”
Democrats backed Johnson in a late-night vote to shut down a motion to vacate brought by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Wednesday, citing his actions to advance a foreign spending bill that irritated some conservatives.

Are you speaking about DC or FR? Because at times, it is hard to tell the difference in this regard.
Yes l know. McCarthy was bad and needed to go. If it wasn’t for the 20 traitors who voted against Jordon it would have been a great move to rid ourselves of Kevin. The GOPe f’d us again
“Republicans let the perfect become the enemy of the, well, somewhat good.”
I would settle for the “good” now and then, but it seems to me most of the Repukes are only too happy to cooperate with their big government Dim buddies on legislation of consequence. All too often they not only refuse to pursue the “perfect,” they don’t even seem to pursue the “good.”
These suckers will believe anything.
Jebus, he did work with the Dems, they stabbed him in the back, didn’t support him like they agreed they would. The Republican Party is a total joke and has been for decades, totally worthless.
Well he doesn’t or didn’t “live with himself” he shared digs with actual democrat fake repub pollster Frank Luntz- who has gotten thing wrong for quite a while on the shift of America to true conservatism and America First, not globalist Bushie/Clintonites and Obamaumao the First following 9/11 muzzie insertion attack. Their strategy all along. The Brotherhood. To which the House of Saud had a revolt and replaces Talwaleed with the heir apparent Bin Salman who signed the Abraham Accords, successful Trump effort for real ME peace. Biden of course, completely dismantled it— and... here we are.
“Ok. Now I’m totally confused.”
Me too. The problem I have with the squabbling in our legislative bodies is that the underlying issues and possibly necessary compromises aren’t discussed in any detail.
I don’t know whether McCarthy did the right thing or Johnson is doing the right thing.
Too much is intentionally kept from us.
So he’s now officially on suicide watch?
But he could do deals with the Democrats to pass legislation?
Total BS.
McCarthy needs to get a life after Congress.
Change his focus.
Make himself useful to society.
McCarthy is a vindictive prick but he’s right about Johnson.
Bannon, on America’s Voice this morning... gave a speech yesterday, to a republican crowd, and included the events with MTG.. When he got to where they in Washington had disagreed with MTG,.. Bannon’s audience sided with MTG. Every one.
“Too much is intentionally kept from us.”
THAT right there is evidence of nobody doing right by The People.
Ok I didn’t put this correctly.
What I meant was McCarthy was ok, sometimes.
We could have done better but it was what it was.
Then we dumped him for Johnson who turned everything over to the Democrats.
So now the situation is worse.
So it’s certain then.
“The Republican Party is a total joke and has been for decades, totally worthless.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The main reason Republicans in Congress regularly look like jokers... is because we are always hitting our own first. We spend our time eating our own in what can be called “political cannibalism”.
The Democrats may lack principles but they are disciplined and they are always sticking together - what ever the cost. That is their force. Group discipline.
Oh please! He isn’t even a believable liar.
But Johnson loves Jesus, just like Pence and Kinzinger. What could go wrong?
