Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is running for a fourth term in the Senate, he announced Monday, likely cementing the longtime progressive for the coming years in the upper chamber.
Sanders, 82, is the second-oldest member of the upper chamber behind only Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa.), who is 90.
“This is the most important national election in our lifetimes,” Sanders said in a statement. “We must fight to make sure that we remain a democracy, not an authoritarian society. We must fight to make sure that we have a government which represents the working families of our country, not the billionaire class and wealthy campaign contributors. We must fight to make sure that women can control their own bodies, and that we save the planet from the ravages of climate change. The stakes are enormous. This is an election we must not lose.”

He’s an addicted communist too.
What is wrong with the people of Vermont...
This is putting it mildly!
Old Bern knows a good racket when he sees one.
I have no idea but to put it nicely, they are weird.
It must be something in the water or air.
Beautiful state to look at and drive through, but crazy on the people level.
Is it crazier than the smaller state of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations?
Family Guy makes one think that state is well, eccentric at least.
He’s an addicted communist too.
I don’t know.
We live in the western part of NH and run into Vermonters all the time. Hardly ever seen RI people so I can’t compare.
Vermonters are the WORST drivers, worse than FL. They seem to think it’s virtuous to drive 5 MPH UNDER the speed limit, except for the occasional pick-up truck driver who takes the *Live Free or Die* motto to heart.
It has always been a libertarian state. It was a deep FDR state back in the depression.
So, when you take that, and toss in about 50,000 out of state students who are allowed to register to vote in VT, it becomes “Sanders” country.
That’s what’s wrong with the voters.
The “People of Vermont” are mostly New York Liberals to moved there to turn Vermont Blue/Communist.
Most of the business owners are originally from NYC. I mean the people who own bed & breakfasts. They are all retired Wall Street types.
There are big business owners like Ben & Jerry that were hippies from NYC. They moved there in the 60s. Got rich making ice cream.
The ski areas are mostly owned by out of state corporations.
Most of the people that work there a seasonally employed. In fact they bring in a lot of people on work visa's during the winter ski season. The people that live there year round are unemployed ski bums in the summer. Maybe they paint and do landscaping or go on welfare.
Burlington is a big college town. UVM and another smaller college dominate the town. All the kids are hipsters.
Subaru's are big sellers. This is where most of the people live. Brattleboro is the next largest town. It is economically depressed.
The rest of VT is very rural. There are more cows than humans. The only real conservatives are the actual dairy farmers. Which there are quite a few. They are hard working salt of the earth types. They are outnumbered by the hipsters and slacker ski bums.
Lastly, there are the people who own all the expensive houses/condos at or near the ski areas. They are all from western MA, CT & NY. It is a straight shot up I91.
Many of these people moved there during covid. Just like they did to many other rural areas because they could work from home.
Keep in mind, VT has the highest percentage of WHITE PEOPLE in the USA(95%). They do have a Somalian population in Burlington. They tend to kill each other over control of the local drug trade. Other than that VT has the lowest overall crime rate in the country. It is a very safe place to live.
I blame Bennington College, a magnet for fruitcakes.
The people in Vermont are wonderful, on the whole. There are a lot of refugees from Brooklyn, and a crust of old money Yankees. Silent Cal would not recognize the place, that’s for sure. Before he died in 1930, with Hoover in the White House, Coolidge said he no longer recognized this country any more. That whirring sound coming from Plymouth Notch is Cal and his ancestors spinning in their graves.
hasn’t old Bernie the Red done enough damage to America?
My mother’s sister attended Middlebury College and had a cottage in the town. Her husband was a surgeon in Washington DC and she was the assistant principal of Chevy Chase high school. Her son, also a Middlebury grad, retired to his mothers old million-dollar lakeside cottage in Middlebury. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, raised in Chevy Chase, he is a raving entitled liberal, and epitomizes everything wrong with Vermont, and the DC suburbs.
Does he need a new vacation house paid by the DNC?
Sounds like California.
I have been to his grave site. The stone looked too new--as if it was a replacement for an original marker that had been stolen or vandalized.
I made the pilgrimage to Plymouth Notch in May a few years ago. There was still snow on shady roadsides. It’s about a two hour drive from my house. I found it moving.
