Former President Donald Trump has laid out the most concrete timeline yet for when he might select his running mate for the 2024 Republican ticket.
“I’ll be picking, but probably not too much before the convention, which I happen to be having in the great state of Wisconsin,” the presumptive GOP nominee told FOX 6 Milwaukee during a campaign visit to the battleground state Wednesday.
The Republican National Convention will be held in Milwaukee July 15-18. Traditionally, the vice presidential nominee will address the delegates on the penultimate night of the gathering.
A source familiar with the conversation previously told The Post that biotech mogul Vivek Ramaswamy is almost definitely out of the running for VP, while allies of the former president said South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has “no shot” at the position after she recounted a 20-year-old story about killing her dog.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also ruled himself out as Trump’s running mate in a February call with donors.
Bloomberg reported Thursday that the former president had narrowed his choices to four top contenders: North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Republican Sens. JD Vance of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida and Tim Scott of South Carolina.

“JD Vance. The others are worthless.”
100% this. Though unless it’s Scott then “Oh noes, two White males on the ticket!!! We doomed!!! Gotta pander moar!!!”
As far as Vance, he is more useful in the Senate than he would be as VP/figurehead even one who splits ties in the 50-50 Senate. Any Trump VP would do that, but Trump has to actually win first.
Also, Vance would almost certainly be replaced in the Senate by someone worse, except in the event that Moreno loses this November (probable) but Trump-Vance wins (not nearly as probable) and Moreno gets the Senate appointment from Governor Squish DeWine (also not overly likely) instead of some Portman-esque RINO like Mike Turner.
If being VP gives Vance the inside track for the GOP nomination for the Big Job in 2028, then that’s one minor saving grace — although we should expect a crowded primary for sure, maybe even crowded with actual conservatives and not just Haley-Christie-Bush-Romney-McCain types!
A diversion....Trump knows its not one of the four.....
surprise is always an element to reposition the candidate favorably.
Were Obama’s?
“How does Bloomberg know this?”

They don’t. Pure supposition on their part.
True. Most politicians are empty suits like Pence.
Norm. The dog story is an allegory for killing the deep state. Remember “The Snake”….
It’s really sad if Trump is limiting himself to these choices. I agree that Vance is better off where he is. But this time the VP needs to be an activist to push Trump to get rid of the Deep State. Vance is the only one of these four likely to do that.
I wish he’d think out of the box & look at Larry Elder, Ric Grenell or a few others. He could do much better than Scott if he wants to appeal to blacks, or some other victim group.
But, its simple poor judgment to pick another person from the same state, its been in the Constitution for a while that its a no no, and Rubio sucks.
Scott is too hardline on abortion. I don’t think it will be him.

Oh for crying out loud, Doug Burgum? He’s a Bill Gates ally. He also has the energy of Pence, and quite likely the same back stabbing capabilities.
Rubio or Scott are better choices.
I want Vance too!!
I don’t buy it. The only predictable thing about Trump is his unpredictability, and he uses it to his advantage.
We can safely ignore any of this speculation - even if it comes from his own mouth.
Think about it - he has zero motivation to narrow down his options. He’s being pestered about it constantly - and he has to say something.
Really, dropping “clues” every couple days is a great way to keep the news cycle about him - but why on earth would he narrow down his choices?
If I were him, I’d be looking for someone - not to balance the ticket - not to appease his base - not to appease the Christian Right - not even to carry on his MAGA movement. All those considerations are fine - but missing the point:
He needs a VP who the deep state hates even more than they hate him. Otherwise, they will kill him day one.
I know he’s thinking about this.
Vivek has a lot of people fooled. He’s a con-man.
Biden might out-maneuver Trump by choosing Whoopi Goldberg as his running mate !! (sarc)

not sure- does DJT have loss carryforward - he hasn’t sold his DJT so no cap gains but not sure if other ramifications, he has tremendous legal expenses to write off -federal tax regs will be similar whether FL or NJ. was thinking of DeSantis, not Rubio.. i think DJT prefers executive experience and senators usually don’t deliver that.
A double-billionaire, old, white guy ticket?
Or Rubio or Scott or Vance?
Yuck!
It’s all theater anyway, unfortunately. But Vance would be the least bad of these options, I suppose.

Another good post. Burgum is anti-conservative and neither he, nor Scott nor Rubio are fighters. They’re all just different colors/flavors of milquetoast.
While one of these 3 may in fact be Trump’s pick, or more likely the GOPe’s pick who is foisted upon Trump (but hey — that trick worked very well in 1980!), the more likely scenario is that the far-leftists at Bloomberg have no idea whatsoever who is really on the short list, much less who the actual selection will be.
I’d seriously rather have Tulsi Gabbard as VP than some of these other options. And I really don’t trust Gabbard one bit despite her apparent move to the right over the past couple of years.
