Tie this article with another one posted here regarding 15 restaurant chains closing stores. The one uniting feature is the fact that the economy is weak. And it is not just eateries. Two LA Fitness gyms have closed within 30 minutes of my home (DFW area). Eating out and gym memberships are among the first things people drop when the economy is on a downturn. Charities and churches will also suffer, although that is less visible than, say, a closed Hardeeā€™s or Cracker Barrel.

Being in a touristy area, we have seasonal layoffs at restaurants every fall. There just isn’t enough customers in the winter (Snowbirds, usually Canadians, cheap anyways) to keep them all open.

Some never re-opened in the Spring................
