I’m not sure if any amount of trying to rectify this is going to change hearts or minds. This was the DUMBEST thing to put in a Memoir! Who WANTS to remember something like that?
And, as a dog breeder/trainer, I totally get it. Some dogs must be put down.

Exactly right. My son said the exact same thing when we discussed this - who thought this would be a good idea to put in a memoir?
My husband came from a hunting family - he said disobedient, aggressive dogs were shot and killed immediately and no one thought a thing about it.
That said, I think she destroyed her political career.

Senator McGovern wrote in his book about his aircraft sport-shooting Italian civilians on a bridge during WWII - a war crime.
This was barely talked about during his political career; mentioned only here and there and no real condemnation as far as I remember.

Perhaps she figured the dog incident would be reported if she, for instance, became Trump’s VP nominee, so she decided to tell it now.

Then you know most of the time it is the humans who don’t know how to train or treat animals that causes problems with dogs. I bet you don’t shoot them.
